1:00 P.M.-2:30 P.M. Timber Rattlesnakes: The Secret Behind the Rattle – Discover the life of one of PA’s most intriguing and, at times, frightening reptiles: the Timber Rattlesnake. Stacy Foster, a certified Timber Rattlesnake monitor, will share her passion for the conservation of this species and provide an up-close look at a live wild specimen!

9:00 A.M-3:30 PM Project Learning Tree Educator Workshop- Connect your learners to nature with hands-on, engaging environmental experiences! Lessons offer exciting investigation-based teaching activities, making learning fun while also building skills, stimulating knowledge gains, and actively engaging students. Project Learning Tree affords students opportunities to learn through real experiences, rather than just reading or hearing about them.
Participants will receive a K-8 curriculum guide with over 50 standards-aligned lessons and printable material. Lessons easily adapted to new PA State STEELS standards.
Open to formal classroom teachers & informal educators such as homeschool parents, scout leaders, etc. Best suited for instructors of grades K-8. 6 Act 48 Hours available for certified PA Teachers. There is a $20 fee for this workshop.
Dress comfortably for both indoor and outdoor activities.

8:00 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. -Watershed Education Teacher Workshop: Native Brook Trout Edition- Introducing Watershed Education with a twist. This educator workshop is perfect for teachers who like connecting the classroom, with real-world applications and experiences. Learn how to utilize the Watershed Education curriculum and apply it in your classroom, in this specially adapted workshop that focuses on the Brook Trout. Discover what these fish can tell us about the world around them. Earn 11.5 Act 48 hours for attending the workshop and completing a 3-hour pre-workshop assignment.
Watershed Education (WE) is an inquiry-based, interdisciplinary curriculum for students in grades 6 -12. Developed by the DCNR Bureau of State Parks, WE help educators utilize local natural resources as a valuable teaching tool. By blending hands-on classroom and field investigations modeled on professional research methodologies, students participate in data collection and analysis, community networking and partnerships, stewardship and service-learning activities. WE promote in-depth, multi-modal learning and understanding of water resources while encouraging students to examine their watershed holistically.
Pre-registration is required for this event. Participant spaces are limited. There is a $20 fee associated with this workshop. Instructions on payment methods (via phone or in person) will be given after registration.

9:00 P.M.-10:00 P.M.- Perseid Party- Try to catch the famous Perseid Meteor Shower! With bright meteors zooming in at about 1 per second, the Perseids are possibly the brightest and most famous meteor shower in the Northern Hemisphere.
Park in the gravel lot for the Wildlife Viewing Area. Walk down the Lowlands Trail about 100 feet to the Wildlife Viewing Area Field on the left.
Bring a lawn chair, and wear insect repellant. Flashlights should be red light only.
No pre-registration required.

Join Jeremey Banfield the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Elk Biologist as he gives a presentation on the how the PAGC manages one of the largest free ranging elk herds in the eastern United States.
