There are four roles for female characters, one in her 70s to 80s, one in her 40s to 60s and two who are 18 to 30s. A middle-aged woman takes her two daughters to visit her mother at a nursing home on Christmas day. Rosie thinks she is still a dancer with the Rockettes and mistakes her granddaughters for fellow dancers. This play is funny and heartwarming.
The “I Hate The Holidays Support Group,” written by Judith Sornberger and directed by Kacy Hagan, has four roles for female characters, two in their 40s to 70s, one in her 60s to 70s and one in her 20s to 30s and two roles for male characters, one in his 20s to 40s and one in his 30s to 50s. The Support Group meeting, led by the female rector, is taking place in a Sunday school room at church just before Christmas. Attending are: a single mother, a widow, a gay man, a middle-aged woman and a Jewish man. The play is both humorous and poignant.
“The Christmas Tamalada,” written by Yolie Canales and directed by Cody Losinger, has four roles for female characters, one 18 to 20s and three in their 40s to 60s and one role for a male character, 18 to 20s. This hilarious play is about three Mexican-American sisters who are following family tradition and making tamales together for Christmas. Their interactions reveal past and present sibling rivalries and their ongoing, loving support of one another.
The creative letters – written by HG Women’s Project members – are humorous and share concerns and wishes for the holidays. Co-directors are Barbara Biddison and Janet Gyekis. One man and five women of any age will perform as if they are writing the letters to family and friends.
