Alice Mae Sayers, 97, of Bradford, PA
Alice Mae Sayers, 97, of Bradford, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Born May 6, 1927, in Frogtown, she was a daughter of the late William and Pearle (McLain) Ferry.
On October 15, 1943, she married Lionel E. Sayers who preceded her in death on October 11, 2019. She was a 1944 graduate of Clarion Limestone High School.
Alice was a deeply spiritual person and prayer warrior who partnered in ministry alongside her husband when he answered the call to ministry in 1953. Alice was an active member and leader of United Methodist Women, taught Sunday School, assisted as a director of Jr. Camp at Findley Lake and served on the Board at Wesley Woods Christian Camp. Lionel and Alice served together at the following churches/charges: Hartfield and Elms Flats EUB Churches; Sugar Lake, Donation and Mount Pleasant EUB Churches; and Evans Memorial UMC.
Alice worked in admissions at Bradford Hospital and as part of the office staff at Surgical Associates, but she is best known for her cookies, pies and bread baking.
Surviving are five daughters, Sherlyn (Sam) Deeter, of Raleigh, NC, Marsha Remington, of Red Lodge, MT, Brenda (Millard Gentner) Sayers, of West Valley, NY, Celia (Tim) Brinker, of Henderson, NC, and Penny (Mike) Carroll of Portland OR, one daughter-in-law, Noreen Sayers, of Cooperstown, and one sister, Lois Skinner of Lima, OH
She leaves behind a legacy of 18 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her husband Lionel of 75 years, one son Thomas Eugene Sayers, and three brothers LeRoy, Harold, and Ralph Ferry.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, from 10am to 11:45am at the Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, 1447 South Avenue, Lewis Run, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12pm. A private burial will be held at Salem Cemetery in Frogtown.
