Smethport School–This was a Drill
Smethport Police Department
This morning in coordination with the Smethport Area School District and McKean County Dept of Emergency Services we held our version of “ Prom Promise”.
Students in 10th, 11th, 12th grade attended a brief assembly in the auditorium where professionals all gave a inside look at what each role is responsibly for during a critical incident from Dispatcher all the way to the McKean County District Attorney’s Office, and everyone in between. Then they had a chance to listen to a Smethport Alumni share the story of her sister and the impact of her accident on them even to this day more than 25 years later.
Then everyone went outside where a group of kids was having a tailgate party in the parking lot before they took off to go to prom and they found a head on crash with other students.
The accident simulated a fatality and several traumatic injuries as well as the cause of the crash being alcohol, with the driver being arrested for DUI.
Police, Fire, and EMS were all dispatched and went through everything including requesting air medical notifying the District Attorney, and calling the Coroner.
The list of individuals that need a thank you is long and well deserved.
