PITT-BRADFORD THEATER PRESENTS ‘THE WOLVES’
BRADFORD, Pa. – The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will present “The Wolves,” a Pulitzer Prize finalist about a young women’s soccer team, Nov. 9-12 in the Studio Theater in Blaisdell Hall.
“I thought of the play like a war movie,” said playwright Sarah DeLappe. “Instead of a troop of young men preparing for battle, we watch a team of young women warming up for their soccer game. There’s a captain, a rebel, an innocent, a recent recruit, a common enemy.
“The arc follows an escalation of blood and viscera both in the content of their speech and the actual sustained injuries and traumas. Of course, their battlefield is a carpet of artificial grass. And yet, on their artificial grass, these girls are allowed to define themselves amongst themselves. … We’re on their turf. They’re not on ours.”
Dr. Kevin Ewert, professor of theater, directed the play. “This play has been very widely produced across the country over the last few years,” he said. “We happen to have a strong contingent of female actors in the program right now, so the time seemed right. It is inventive and raw, with lots of character voices that want to be heard.”
The actors are #11 Miranda Mong, an English major from Russell; #25 Hannah Krug, a pre-physical therapy student from Rouseville; #13 Abby McCullough, an interdisciplinary arts major from Aliquippa; #46 Taylor Beebe, an early-level education (preK-4) major from Westfield; #2 Daniela Banuel Alarcon, a chemistry major from Helena, Mont.; #7 Morgan Jelliff, a social studies education 7-12 major from Galeton; #14 Mara Martinec, a English education 7-12 major from Oil City; #8 Zoe Hager, an undeclared student from Houston; and #00 Anna Killingbeck, a chemistry and forensic science student from Chaffee, N.Y.
“The Wolves” will play at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9, 10 and 11 and 2 p.m. Nov. 12. Tickets are $6 for the public and $2 for students. This production has coarse language and sexual references.
