Dana Daisley, Coudersport Teacher, Describes Stem Lab Program To Rotary
Coudersport Rotary Club welcomed Dana Daisley to our October 23, 2023 meeting at A&W West End Grill.
Dana Daisley is in his 30th year as an Elementary School Teacher. Originally a classroom teacher, he is now the Coudersport Elementary School STEM Lab Facilitator. The program encourages Science, Technology, Engineering and Math for grades Pre-K through 6th Grade.
Students are taught computer skills, coding, engineering and design, robotics, 3D printing, Gear ratios, pneumatics, drone operation and programming, animation, video editing, digital media creation, circuits, model rockets, video game creation, alternative energy and simple machines as well as much, much more. The students learn to work with partners and as part of a team to solve problems and to achieve a common goal. The program is advantageous for students with learning disabilities. Some students who don’t read well may excel in this type of environment.
For the PA K’nex Design Challenge with a conservation theme, students built a model car that would generate its own electricity. They won first place at IU9 in Smethport and went on to Harrisburg, where they were one of 47 teams selected out of 20,000 entries.
Coudersport Rotary Club thanks Dana for his informative and interesting presentation.
