Fall in Love with Barbara Moscato Brown Library’s Fall Programming
Friday, September 8, 2023
Fill your fall calendar with the many programs and contests to be found at the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library.
For starters, September is Library Card Signup Month, and to celebrate the library is offering everyone who registers for a new library card or updates an old library card can choose a free, brand new book from their prize wall.
To help raise funds for more great programs and contests, the library is offering a basket raffle with 4 great themed options to choose from: The Bad Guys and Pokémon themed baskets for young readers, The Summer I Turned Pretty basket for young adults, and a Dolly Parton basket for country fans. Tickets for all baskets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and the tickets will be available until October 6, 2023.
New in September, Story Hour has added an afternoon session on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 for children ages 5-8. Each session will include a story, craft, and light snack.
Also new, the library is offering a Young Adult Book Club for area youth ages 14-18. All participants must have a valid library card through the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library. Register now through September 16, 2023. The library has also reopened registration for their regular book club for adults, and anyone interested in registering for either book club should contact library staff, or check out the registration links on the library’s website at https://barbaramoscatobrownlibrary.org/library-programs/.
The library is also bringing back their Harry Potter “Wizarding Days” programs starting off with an Herbology 101 class on September 18 at 4:30 pm, where participants will get to make their own Mandrake Root. Registration is required and you can register by calling the library at 814-486-8011.
After a long search, the library has found someone to lead a Dungeons & Dragons Club and registration for that is open online or by calling the library. The club is open to ages 14-18 and registration will continue until September 25 with the first session held October 2 at 4pm. The library will provide all supplies, but space is VERY limited so register early.
Toward the end of the month, Penn State Master Gardener Stephen Marconi will be back for a Seed Saving Program on Thursday, September 28 at 5 p.m. Marconi will discuss seed saving practices and techniques for new and experienced gardeners. Please call the library to register for this event.
The month will end with a very special Rick Riordan Mythology Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, September 30 to celebrate the release of the latest installment in the Percy Jackson series, “The Chalice of the Gods”. Participants will compete in teams to find all the clues around the library for a chance to win Rick Riordan books and gift cards! Registration is required for this event as well and you can register online or by calling the library.
Looking towards October, there will be a Banned Books Contest where everyone “caught” reading a banned book can be instantly registered to win an Amazon Gift Card.
Additionally, in October, the Saturday Puzzle Swap will be back beginning October 7. There will be a Wizarding Days Potions Class, Halloween events, and more.
