Protect You and Your Family During National Immunization Awareness Month
Did you know a baby gets disease immunity from mom during pregnancy? When a pregnant woman gets a flu or whooping cough immunization, her body will create protective antibodies and pass some of them on to the baby before birth. This immunity can protect your baby from some diseases during the first few months of life, but immunity decreases over time. Before your baby is born, protect both of you with vaccines.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). During NIAM, we encourage you to talk to your doctor, nurse, or healthcare provider to ensure you and your family are protected against serious diseases by getting caught up on routine immunizations.
Remember to receive any vaccines you need to stay healthy. All immunizations are held to the highest standards of safety – meaning they are carefully studied and monitored for side effects. CDC continually monitors vaccine safety and the most common side effects seen are mild ones such as headache, redness, or tenderness and go away quickly on their own. Most people who get vaccinated have no side effects.
As your children head back to school this fall, it is important for you to make sure they get caught up on missed well-child visits and recommended vaccines. The Allegany County Department of Health is offering the following immunization clinics to assist County residents with catching up on any routine immunizations, and immunizing their children before school begins in September.
The Allegany County Department of Health immunization clinics are held in Belmont at the County office building:
