THERE ARE OPENINGS FOR THREE BOX OF LIGHT DIGITAL ARTS CAMPS AT THE DEANE CENTER; REGISTRATION TO END ON MONDAY, JUNE 26
Registration ends this coming Monday, June 26 for camps being presented Monday through Friday, July 24-28 by Rand Whipple of the Box Of Light Digital Arts Studio at the Deane Center at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro.
The camps are being held to give children from Tioga County and surrounding areas the opportunity to learn about digital arts, animation and film.
Kids can register for more than one camp. The deadline is Monday, June 26, or until all seats are filled, whichever comes first.
The camps are made possible thanks to support from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the Bradford Regional Arts Council and Northern Tier Partners for the Arts.
Lego Maniacs Camp
There are six openings in the Lego Maniacs Camp, which is for kids ages 6 to 8. It is being held from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21. Four days of the camp will be focused on Lego animation. Working in teams of three, the campers will plan, build and then film a stop motion animation using Lego mini figs and Lego brick sets. Once the animation is complete, these young filmmakers will learn how to add sound, titles, and the all-important credits for their own Lego creations. One day will be spent building and programming robots using the Lego Mindstorms System.
Adventure Film Camp
There are three openings in the Adventure Film Camp, which is for kids ages 9 to 12. It is being held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21. In this camp, the Box Of Light Digital Arts Studio will help kids make the most amazing adventure movie ever. They will learn how to frame a shot, act for the camera, structure a dramatic or comic scene, edit video, lay in sound effects, and even create a simple musical score.
Digital Arts Camp
There is one opening in the Digital Arts Camp, which is being held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28. Kids, ages 8 to 12, get a taste of digital arts processes. There is a different challenge every day. Being covered are: Claymation, green screen, film, digital books, and robotics. Youth will sculpt, build, film and program.
Stop Action Animation Camp
The popular Stop Action Animation Camp, a “hands-on” mixing of art, film, and computers, is for youngsters ages 8 to 12. It is full and has a wait list. This camp is being held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28. Rand Whipple will show the campers how to make the inanimate world come to life as clay, paper, paint, and even bottle tops get up and move across the landscape the kids create. They will make animated movies, add sound and credits and, in the end, their films will live online on the studio’s website.
Film Screening Festival
The camps will end with a Film Screening Festival on Friday, July 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The young filmmakers can invite their friends and families to this special screening on the last day of camp. They’ll walk the red carpet, pose for the paparazzi and enjoy films from all campers at the Deane Center.
Fee
The fee for a youngster to attend one camp is $25. Families with more than one child attending a camp will receive a 10 percent discount. Scholarships are also available.
