Penn State Extension Workshop Covering Dairy Housing Options.
PENN STATE EXTENSION WORKSHOP
Is your old tie-stall barn worn out, and now you are at the crossroads of what to do next? Or are you simply looking for different options?
If your answer is ‘yes’ you are invited to join the Penn State Extension workshop:
Dairy Housing Options: My Tie-Stall Is Worn Out—Now What?
February 18, 2025, Woodbury Community Center, Woodbury, PA 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
February 25, 2025, Home Comfort Restaurant, Westfield, PA 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
March 4, 2025, Park Hotel & Brewery, Canton, PA 9:30 AM – 2:00 PM
John Tyson, Penn State Extension Ag. Engineer will explore different housing options, including free stalls, bedded packs, updating tie-stalls, and low-cost milking facilities. This workshop is ideal for farmers looking to make changes to their operation, taking over from the previous generations or starting from scratch.
Emily Fread, Penn State Educator, will talk about managing cows as a group instead of as individuals when transitioning away from a tie stall. She will discuss grouping strategies and management changes that come with a new barn.
This event is sponsored by Horizon Farm Credit.
Registration is $15/person and is required – either through the Penn State Website (Dairy Housing Options: My Tie-Stall Is Worn Out—Now What?) or Email or call Michal Lunak at mpl5660@psu.edu, tel: 603-348-2026.
