Penn College women have perfect week
The Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s softball team put together a 6-0 week, while the college’s baseball and men’s lacrosse teams split in their games, and several basketball players received postseason honors.
Softball
On Wednesday, the Wildcats swept Penn State Schuylkill 8-0 and 9-1, both in five innings. Mackenzie Weaver of Montoursville threw a two-hitter in the opener, and Fayth Anderson of Lykens went 3 for 3, including a triple, with two RBIs and one run scored. In the second game, Weaver had the hot bat going 2 for 2 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Also, Harley Kunes of Mill Hall had a three-run triple, and Mackenzi Tice of Mansfield earned the pitching win.
Hosting Rosemont College on Saturday, Penn College earned another sweep by scores of 2-1 and 4-0. In the first game, Weaver threw a three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one, and Ryleigh Rinker of Poway, California, plated the only run Weaver needed to improve to 7-3 on the season with an RBI single in the first inning. In the second game, Tice twirled a one-hit shutout, fanning 16 and walking none, and Weaver went 2 for 4 at the plate and drove in three runs.
At Penn State Altoona on Sunday, the Wildcats won 4-3 in 10 innings and then took the second game 9-2 to extend their win streak to six. Tied at 3-all through nine innings in the opener, Weaver singled in a run in the top of the 10th and then shut the door from the mound in the bottom half for her eighth win. In the second game, Weaver had two hits, including a double, and plated three runs, while Tice struck out 10 for the mound win. Rinker and Grace Lorson of Jersey Shore both drove in two runs for Penn College.
Earlier in the week, Weaver claimed her seventh career UE Pitcher of the Week honor, and she collected her second weekly pitcher award of the season after a 2-2 week in the circle during spring break action in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Weaver tossed four complete games, amounting to 27 innings pitched with two shutout wins. She combined for 27 strikeouts while allowing 15 hits, six runs and four earned runs.

Baseball
In a back-and-forth tussle at Elmira College on Tuesday, Elmira had the final say with a solo home run in the last of the eighth inning that produced a 7-6 victory.
Hosting Elmira on Wednesday, the shoe was on the other foot as Penn College trailed 6-4 through five innings before erupting with a six-run eighth for a 10-6 win. Nathan Gustkey of Philipsburg and Shawn Townsend of Hatboro both finished with three hits as Gustkey drove in two runs and scored once, while Townsend had one RBI and scored twice.
On Saturday, in United East play at Penn State Abington, the Wildcats split, losing 16-10 and winning 8-5. In the opener, Gustkey and Brandon Shane of Boyertown each had three hits, while Jaydon Goebel of Honey Brook, Levi Purnell of Snow Shoe and Dallas Griess of Williamsport each drove in two runs. In the nightcap, Penn College led 5-0 through the top of the third inning before Abington started its comeback. Gustkey had four hits, scored one and drove in one; Shane had three hits, drove in two and scored once; Purnell had two hits, plated two and scored once; and Ethan Stahl of Cogan Station had three hits and scored twice in an 18-hit attack.
Earlier in the week, Jaiden Augustine of Dillsburg was named United East Player of the Week after he batted a team-best 11-20 (.550) with 11 RBIs, nine runs scored, one double, one triple and two stolen bases in six games for the Wildcats.

Men’s Lacrosse
A 14-5 home win on Wednesday against Marywood University gave Penn College its first six-match win streak in program history. Aidan McFalls of Gilbertsville led the offense with four goals and one assist.
Stepping into United East action at perennial powerhouse and defending champion St. Mary’s (Md.) College on Saturday, the Wildcats saw their six-match win streak end 26-7. Elliot Dotson of Wilmington, Delaware, scored two goals and had an assist, and teammate Owen Kupsey of Chadds Ford also had two goals.
Earlier in the week, goalkeeper Ryan Twist of Great Meadows, New Jersey, earned the UE Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting a career-best 20 saves in a 13-7 victory at Shenandoah on March 12.

Men’s Basketball
On Tuesday, senior Livingston Cross of Union, New Jersey, was named to the D3Hoops.com District 4 All-Region third team. During his team’s 10-18 season, which included reaching the United East semifinals, Cross amassed 23 double-doubles, which led all players in Division III. His 13.2 rebounds per game led the United East and ranked fifth in the nation, while his 22.3 points per game ranked 12th in the country. Cross hit the double-digit scoring mark in every game this season while eclipsing the 30-point mark in five contests. His efforts helped him earn a spot on the all-conference first team while also earning him three weekly accolades from the conference.
Earlier this month, senior Christian Chandler of Norfolk, Virginia, was named to the UE All-Sportsmanship team.
Women’s Basketball
Earlier this month, senior Kayleigh Miller of Sayre was named to the UE All-Sportsmanship team.
Men’s Tennis
Penn College lost in nonconference play against King’s College on Friday, 4-3, as the teams split in singles play, each winning three individual matches, and King’s captured two of the three doubles matches to secure its team win. Singles winners for the Wildcats included Logan Ogden of South Williamsport at No. 3, Seth Priestman of Bloomsburg at No. 4 and Matt Williams of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, at No. 6.
