PMEA District Band
Kaydence Beaver – clarinet, Aidan Clark – euphonium, Raelin Meacham – clarinet, Alayna Palmer – trumpet, and Leila Stuckey – clarinet were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 2 Band.
The students will be traveling to St Marys Area HS January 23-25, 2025 where they will participate in auditions, rehearsals, and a public concert on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM.

She was born September 29, 1936 in English Center, PA a daughter of the late Clair and Shirley Marshall. On January 22, 1955 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Renovo she married the late James A. Gavlock.

Donna M. Kosick, 75, Of St. Marys, PA.
Donna M. Kosick, 75, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
She was born on April 22, 1949 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Francis “Frank” and Dorothy Baumgratz Skok.
On April 1, 2003, she married the late James Kosick, who preceded her in death in 2013.
Donna was a graduate of St. Marys Area High School, class of 1967. She attended beauty school and then worked for a number of years as the Office Manager at Lusko Plating in Ridgway. Donna proudly served as a Supervisor for Spring Creek Township, retiring from her position in 2024. In her free time, Donna loved reading and her companionship with her beloved dog, Bella.
Rolfe Beagle Club to Offer 9th Annual Statewide Winter Coyote and Fox Hunt or Trap
Johnsonburg, Pa.: Jim Pennington, Jr., President of the Rolfe Beagle Club, announces that the Rolfe Beagle Club will once again offer its popular Coyote and Fox Hunt or Trap over two weekends in February. The 9th Annual event will take place from February 7-9 and then again on the following weekend of February 14-16.
“Our club pays out for each harvest and the heaviest coyote for each weekend receives an extra bonus. We have been impressed with the number of families hunting or trapping together for this event, so we want to continue to make certain that all harvests receive something,” said Jim.
Registration for both weekends must be received or postmarked no later than Thursday, 2/6, if you hunt or trap over both weekends. Registration must be received or postmarked no later than Thursday, February 13 if you are going to participate in the second weekend only. All registrations must be received at the Rolfe Beagle Club, 1016 Long Level Road, Johnsonburg, PA 15845. Registration must include a phone number or an email. Gary Lee Brumagin, 71, of North Warren, PA, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Warren General Hospital.
He was born in Westfield, New York on May 12, 1953, the son of the late James R. and Rhea E. VanGeem Brumagin. Gary had resided in Warren for 63 Years. He was a graduate of Warren Area High School. He worked for the former Rexnord as a software engineer. He also called western style square dancing for 40 years.
Gary was very active in the community theatre group Warren Players as an actor, builder, set crew, and former president. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
On October 20, 1984, Gary married the former Dixie L. Blair, in Warren.

Mary C. Urbanski, 79, of Warren, Pa, died on Friday January 10, 2025, in the Warren Manor. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania Ave. W. Warren, Pa, with the Rev. Richard Tomasone, pastor, officiating.
Family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:00 am in the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Warren, Pa.

BRMC, OGH announce first Star Award winners of 2025
BRADFORD, PA / OLEAN, NY – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, are proud to announce the January 2025 Star Award winners. This month’s recipients were Heidi Elliott, LPN, BRMC, and Christine Phillips, OGH.
Heidi Elliott, an LPN at Smethport Family Practice, BRMC, has been honored as the first BRMC Star Award winner of 2025. She joined the organization in 2019.
“Heidi is an excellent nurse! She greets every patient with a smile and has a great rapport with them. Heidi continually goes above and beyond for the team wherever there is a need. She recently stepped up while short staffed handling the needs for two providers such as: rooming patients, administering injections, obtaining urine drug screens, and assisting providers with procedures. She handled that day with grace and never complained,” said her nomination. “We are extremely grateful for the hard work she puts in every day.”
Christine Phillips, environmental services, a team member at OGH since 2023, was awarded the first OGH Star Award of 2025.
“Christine consistently keeps the ICU in an outstanding state of cleanliness—the cleanest I have ever seen! She warmly engages with patients and their families, fostering a positive and comforting environment. I observed her orienting a new team member with exceptional patience and thoroughness, which inspired me to nominate her for this recognition,” detailed her nomination. “Christine not only exemplifies excellence in her own work, but also demonstrates a commitment to excellence in her colleagues. Her dedication is truly commendable!”
The Star Award is presented monthly to an employee who demonstrates outstanding performance and inspires the same in others. Staff are nominated for exceptional customer satisfaction, continuous performance improvement, teamwork, communication, ownership/accountability, and excellence through co-worker or patient nominations.
The following were also nominated for Star Awards at BRMC: Jennifer Snyder, EVS aide, and Jennifer Klussmann, CNA. OGH nominees were: Dawn Dubois, RN; Abby Green, coder; Derek Hittle, ED tech; Ashlyn Howard, BSN, RN; and Julia Whitney, RDMS(AB), RT(S). Star award recipients receive a chamber of commerce gift certificate, additional paid time off, certificate of recognition, and the star award parking spot.

Danny E. Fox, 81, of 286 School Street Rixford, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born August 9, 1943, in Olean, NY, he was a son of the late Clyde Thomas and Dorothy Maxine (Schwab) Fox. Danny was a 1961 graduate of Otto Eldred High School.
On February 21, 1964, in the Bradford EUB Church, he married Patricia Lee (Krafton) Fox who survives.
He worked at Speer Electronics and Quaker State Refinery as a gauger.
Danny was a lifetime member of Rixford EUB Church. In his younger years he was an avid hunter. He belonged to an ATV club and enjoyed going for rides in the area. He also loved playing softball for the Old Timers softball league and was one of the original members of the Little Nippers. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family. Danny was a kind and loving husband and father.

Mary M. Rae, 98, of Bradford, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Born on June 14, 1926, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Charles F. and Elizabeth A. (Donnelly) McCarthy. She was a 1944 graduate from St. Bernard’s High School.
On June 14, 1952, in St. Bernard Church, she married Daniel J. Rae, who preceded her in death on July 8, 1978.
From 1947 to 1950, Mary was employed at Zippo, and from 1950 to 1953 worked for Lee Minter at Keta Gas and Oil. She was then employed at the Blaisdell Foundation as a teacher’s aide. In 1968, she started as a supervisor at Futures. Then in 1972 she was promoted to the Executive Director of Futures until 1998. From 1998 to 2006, she was the Vice President of Development of the Endowment at Futures.

Michael F. Kemick, 93, of 3 Anthony Lane, Bradford, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born August 16,1931, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Ed C. Kemick and Florence M. (Roberts). Michael was a 1950 graduate from Bradford High School.
On January 1, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force. He served with the 3707th Training Squadron and was honorably discharged.
On May 12, 1956, in Bradford, he married Joan G. (Hane) Kemick who preceded him in death on November 17, 2018.

James A. Wonderling, 96, of Kersey, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Penn Highlnads Dubois after a brief illness.
He was born on July 6, 1928, in St. Marys, the son of the late Jay and Winnifred Jury Wonderling.
On July 22, 1949, he married the late Betty J. Wingate, who preceded him in death in 1980.
James found joy in the simple things in life, whether it was cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers or enjoying a thrilling baseball game. He cherished every moment spent with family and friends, always making time for gatherings filled with laughter and love. Some of his favorite pastimes included playing bingo, camping under the stars, hunting in the great outdoors, and eagerly watching dirt track racing. He truly embraced life to the fullest, even finding joy in the humble act of mowing grass.

Samuel F. Hadden, 92, of 4218 Route 305, Cuba, passed away shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.
Born on August 12, 1932, in Duke Center, Pennsylvania, he was a son of William B. and Goldie M. Hockenberry Hadden. On July 16, 1955, in Cuba, he married the former Maxine A. Bunk who predeceased him on February 16, 2016.
Sam graduated high school in Mahaffey, Pennsylvania. He then served in the United States Army from 1953-55. He starting working for Montgomery Ward as an appliance repairman for 17 years, then for himself for several years and last for Bradner’s in Olean for 6 years. He also drove school bus for Cuba Rushford Central School for 21 years retiring in 2012 at the age of 80, and always enjoyed transporting the Amish children.
He enjoyed playing bass guitar with the Country Playboys band and woodworking, making numerous pieces of furniture for friends and family.
