Nine Allegany-Limestone Central School and Oswayo Valley Central School graduates were recently awarded memorial scholarships from funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Addie Fisher and Tatymn Lindell received the Nicolas G. Pendl Memorial Scholarship for $2,000, while Stephanie Kopec and Haylee Voorhees were awarded $1,000.

The scholarship is for a graduating senior from Allegany-Limestone Central School in good academic standing who intends to pursue a 2- or 4-year degree in environmental science or other science-related field. The scholarship, in memory of Nicolas G. Pendl, a 2013 Allegany-Limestone Central School graduate, was established by Peter, Mary and Bethany Pendl; the Pendl and Potter families; the Allegany Engine Company; and friends of Nicolas.

At their August 11, 2025 meeting, at A&W West End Grill, Coudersport Rotary Club hosted Shelley Butler to talk about the Coudersport Chamber of Commerce.

Shelley Butler is a Legislative Aide for Martin Causer’s office. Her son, Dan Butler, sang beautifully at our first annual Christmas Concert.

She has begun re-opening the Coudersport Chamber of Commerce. A Coudersport native, her father was Director of Public Works. She lived in Wellsville, NY, for a while and came back to Coudersport in 2019. Shelley has served on the Northern Potter School Board as well as the Wellsville School Board.

Shelley embarked upon reorganizing the Chamber last January. Local business owners and employees, John Lenox, Dennis Goodenough, Caroline Powers, Danielle Stilson, Kelly Bruno, and Susan Williams are also involved in the reorganization.

Michael J. Davis            “beloved husband, son, father, and brother”

Michael J. “Mike” Davis, 48, of Shinglehouse, passed away in his home with his loving family by his side, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on Monday, July 11, 1977 in Coudersport, he was a son of Wallace E. “Ed” Jr. and Robin L. Hammond Davis.  On May 6, 2011 in Coudersport, he married Laura M. Babcock DeLong, who survives.

Michael was a graduate of Port Allegany High School.  Until his retirement due to his illness, Michael was employed at Morgan Advanced Materials in Coudersport where he was a drafting design tech.

He was a member of the Wellsville Country Club in Wellsville, NY.  He was an avid golfer.  Being very athletic and competitive, he enjoyed many outdoor sports and games. He also enjoyed playing pool.    He loved music and was a Classic Rock fan. Michael was beloved by all that knew him.

Rep. Martin Causer (R-Cameron/McKean/Potter) will once again host his annual Senior Citizens Expo in Kane to provide area seniors and their family members and caregivers convenient access to a wide range of information in one convenient location.

The expo will be held on Friday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kane Community Center, 46 N. Fraley St., Kane.

“There are so many programs and services available to support our senior citizens, but it still can be difficult for people to find the help they need,” Causer said. “I hope area seniors will take advantage of the opportunity to gather a lot of helpful information in one place.”

The event is free to attend, and lunch will be provided. State, county and local exhibitors will be on hand to distribute information and answer questions about a variety of issues. Health screenings will also be offered, and door prize drawings will be held.

Causer noted he will also hold another expo on Friday, Oct. 10, at the Roulette Fire Hall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Saturday, August 30, 2025, through Monday, September 1, 2025, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. 

Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications, and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website.

Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver’s license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates; REAL ID pre-verification; and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using online services.

Lillian L Krug, 95, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Bucktail Rd., St. Marys, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025 following a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 12 PM at the St. Marys Church.

The Conservation Districts of Cameron, Elk, McKean, Potter, and Tioga, in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and Generations Forestry are sponsoring a day-long workshop for foresters, loggers, logging contractors, and private landowners.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at the Wilcox Community Building, 320 Faries Street, Wilcox from 8 AM to 4 PM.

The workshop will cover:  fundamentals for erosion control, permitting and stream considerations; planning before the harvest using the SFI Timber Harvest Checklist to plan a sustainable harvest; Best Management Practices (BMPs) and common site problems.  

Professional credits are available for Continuing Education (PA Sustainable Forestry Initiative for an additional $20.00 fee. * Flash Flood Warning for…

Southeastern Steuben County in central New York…

* Until 1130 PM EDT.

* At 824 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of
rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include…
Elmira, Corning, West Elmira, Southport, Big Flats, Horseheads,
Elmira Heights, Caton, Lindley, Painted Post, Addison, South
