Established in rhythm and bonded through service, the Veterans Music Coalition seeks to channel the energy of local artists to celebrate, support and stand beside those who have served.

The fund, created in partnership with the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, will provide grant support for music lessons, workshops, songwriting classes and recording services designed specifically for local veterans.

The fund aims to foster personal expression and connection through music, while helping veterans explore creativity as a path to healing. Programming will be developed and guided by the Veterans Music Coalition, a group of veterans committed to uplifting those who have served.

The Beers Family Reunion takes place every year in Monroeton, Pa.  At that reunion the family members take an official vote as to which deceased family member will be honored this year in a special monetary tribute to help a non-profit organization.  In past years, the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association were examples of recipients of the Beers Family members’ generosity.  This year the Beers Family members voted to honor Alex Reinsburrow, formerly of Johnsonburg who died in a tragic accident in the past year.

The Beers Family asked Alex’s surviving daughters, Kiya, Layla, and Abigail, where they thought the donation in memory of their father should go, and the young girls said, “the Rolfe Beagle Club because Daddy hunted there and he took us there to visit.”

The Rolfe Beagle Club thanks the Beers Family Reunion and the Reinsburrow Family for thinking of this club as a proud recipient of their donation.

Snowshoe Hares and Appalachian Cottontails in Pennsylvania

The October 2, 2025 Roach-Bauer Forestry Forum is pleased to announce that Ms. Emily Boyd, Small Game Mammal Specialist with the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC), will be the keynote speaker.  Emily graduated from Juniata College in 2010 with a B.S. in Wildlife Conservation and from the University of Arkansas at Monticello in 2013 with a M.S. degree in Wildlife Management and Ecology.  In addition to PGC, Emily previously worked for Delaware Fish & Wildlife, and Pheasants Forever.    

Ms. Boyd started her career with PGC during a summer internship in 2008.  Emily held various PGC positions over the years and started in the permanent Small Game Mammal Specialist position in 2019.  In this position, Emily spends most of her time focused on three species of greatest conservation need identified in the 2025-2035 State Wildlife Action Plan.  Appalachian cottontails and snowshoe hares are a focal point of her work with research projects in recent years using hunter cooperator groups, surveys, field cameras, genetic analysis, and monitoring survival and habitat use of collared individuals.  The majority of these projects have been focused on habitat; what habitats retain these species across Pennsylvania’s diverse landscape, how these species respond to habitat management activities, and how can habitat management be improved to benefit them.

Motorists are advised that a two-year highway improvement project continues on Interstate 180 in the City of Williamsport, Loyalsock Township, Fairfield Township, and Montoursville Borough, Lycoming County.

• The contractor will continue paving operations in both directions, between the bridges spanning the Loyalsock Creek in Loyalsock Township and just west of Basin Street (Exit 26) in the City of Williamsport. Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions where work is being performed.
• (NEW) Paving will continue on the Faxon interchange ramps (Exit 25) and Northway Road (Route 2029) between the Interstate 180 interchange and Third Street (Route 2014).  Motorists can expect alternating lane restrictions and lane shifts where work is being performed.
• (NEW) Asphalt plug joints, also known as expansion joints, will be installed throughout the work zone.
• Work will be performed between the hours of 7:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Tonight’s concert at the gazebo on the Town Square in Port Allegany PA  (July 31 ) has been canceled due to weather.

DISTRICT ATTORNEY THANKS CITY OF BRADFORD ADMINISTATORS FOR THEIR ONGOING PARTNERSHIP   

District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer releases the summary of the ongoing efforts by the McKean County Drug Task Force with yesterday’s arrests.  The arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the area.      

Last evening, on July 28th, Task Force Detectives arrested Kortney BUNDY of Bradford.  BUNDY was  charged with Delivery (Methamphetamine) (Felony); Possession (misdemeanor) and Criminal Use of a Communication Device (Felony 3). BUNDY was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge William Todd who set bail at $10,000. 

The complaint alleges BUNDY arranged a drug sale and then met with an informant working under the surveillance of the undercover Detectives with the McKean County Drug Task Force to sell methamphetamine. 

Also last evening, Tonya RILEY of Salamanca, was charged with Delivery (Crack Cocaine) (Felony), Possession (Crack Cocaine) (Misdemeanor), and Criminal Use of a Communication Facility (Felony 3). T. RILEY is accused of setting up a drug sale and then meeting with a cooperating informant while undercover Task Force Detectives had her under surveillance and then selling crack cocaine. T. RILEY was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge William Todd who set bail at $10,000.

Donald RILEY of Bradford was also arrested last night and charged with Criminal Use of a Communication Facility (Felony 3) and Theft (Misdemeanor 2).  D. RILEY is charged with setting up a drug sale with a cooperating informant and meeting the informant while under surveillance of the undercover Detectives with the McKean County Drug Task Force.  Additional charges are pending. 

Additional arrests are also expected. District Attorney Vettenburg-Shaffer:  “The work of the McKean County Drug Task Force is often out of the spotlight but I wanted to take the opportunity to express gratitude for their continuous efforts through lengthy investigations and countless tips.  The amount of time behind each investigation is tremendous and often unseen by the public. 

The Potter-McKean Players will hold an organizational meeting on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 7:00 pm at 601 N Main Street in Coudersport. The group will hold an election for board members, and members of the group will present plans for performances in 2026.

Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) is reminding area senior citizens of the annual Senior Citizens Expo coming up on Friday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Sports and Fitness Gymnasium, located on Campus Drive.

“This is always an informative event that is helpful not only to senior citizens but to their family members and caregivers as well,” Causer said. “I encourage everyone to come out and take advantage of the opportunity to get a wealth of information in one convenient location.”

Due to the expo, Causer’s offices in Bradford, Coudersport and Kane will be closed all day on Friday, Aug. 1. People in need of urgent assistance that day should contact the Harrisburg office at 717-787-5075.

The event is free to attend, and lunch will be provided. State, county and local exhibitors will be on hand to distribute information and answer questions about a variety of issues. Health screenings will also be offered, and door prize drawings will be held.

Additional expos are scheduled Friday, Sept. 12, at the Kane Community Center, and Friday, Oct. 10, at the Roulette Fire Hall. Both events also will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
