            Bradford, PA/Olean, NY – Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), Kaleida Health facilities, are excited to announce Misty Sanders, BS, RRT-LPN, respiratory care, BRMC, with the first Nightingale Award of 2025. Sanders, a respiratory therapist and licensed practical nurse (LPN), has been with the organization since 2013.

            “Misty is the supervisor of the cardiopulmonary department, overseeing the respiratory and sleep lab departments. She’s dedicated to ensuring patients receive the best care possible, whether it’s during a routine visit or in an emergency. No matter the situation, Misty is always there, assuring that respiratory services run smoothly for both inpatient and outpatient care,” said her nomination. “Beyond her incredible work with patients, Misty is a true leader. She supports her staff with kindness and professionalism, always leading by example. Misty is a mentor, a team player, and someone who genuinely cares about the well-being of everyone around her.”

Words can bless, curse, lift, tear down, and create or destroy life. God said that we were made in His image. He spoke, and the worlds were created. We too have creative power in our words. The question isn’t if we have that power; it’s what we do with it.

Children learn very quickly that their words have power. Words often express feelings and fears. When threatened, we use our words to push people away or to overpower them. Words are frequently used to demean, ridicule, and otherwise devalue another to bolster the person using them. Again, children are remarkably inept at this.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) will conduct a meeting of the Fisheries and Hatcheries Committee on Monday, April 14, 2025, beginning at 9 a.m.  This meeting will be held online with committee members participating remotely.

This Sunday the Big 30 Basketball Senior Classic takes place at Portville, NY. The girls game tips off at 2pm with the boys following @ 4pm.

Johnsonburg, Pa.:  The Rolfe Beagle Club, an active bird dog and sportsmen’s group in Johnsonburg, continued their wetlands improvements this spring by replacing old woodduck boxes at their two wetlands.  Jim Pennington, Jr., President of the Rolfe Beagle Club, says “We hope woodducks will come back and use the boxes again now that we’ve replaced the old boxes with new ones.  We got a new box at each one of our wetlands.” 

Club members Buddy Decker, Bill Maiers, and Ray Erich worked with JoAnn Schiafone, Habitat Coordinator for the club, to get the boxes up on revamped poles.

Future work in the wetlands include a remake of goose nesting platforms and outflow controls.

McKean County is seeking qualified and highly motivated applicants to perform the duties of Court Monitor for The Court of Common Pleas. The purpose of this position is to create verbatim transcripts of Court proceedings, ensuring a complete, accurate, and secure legal record.

The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:

1.  Record court proceedings using a court monitoring system and recording equipment.

2.  Transcribe recordings in a timely fashion.

3.  Maintain recording equipment, including saving court proceedings from hard drive to CDs/ thumb drives and log notes.

4.  Index, file and maintain court recordings, tape cassette recordings, and exhibits.

5.  Maintain the printer, supplies of CDs, microphone batteries, tapes, and paper.

6.  Answer the telephone and direct calls as appropriate.

7.  Perform other duties as required for the successful operation of the department.

The qualifications of the position include the following:

Education:  Associates Degree or comparable office experience.

Experience:  1-2 years experience in court related field preferred but not required.

Other:  Sharp listening skills, knowledge of legal terminology, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.  Ability to multi-task and excellent organization skills.

Pennsylvania hunters harvested about 11% more deer in the 2024-25 hunting seasons than they did the year before, according to Pennsylvania Game Commission estimates released today.

The statewide 2024-25 harvest is estimated at 476,880 deer, 175,280 of them antlered deer and 301,600 antlerless.

By comparison, the statewide 2023-24 harvest was estimated at 430,010 deer.

Most of that year-over-year increase is attributable to the antlerless deer harvest. The 2024-25 buck take was up 2% over the year before, and 9% over the most recent three-year average. The 2024-25 antlerless harvest increased 17% over the year before and 21% over the three-year average.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) alerts drivers that work will restart on Monday, March 31, on sidewalk installation along Route 4014 (Maple Avenue) and Route 4017 (Shaffer Road) in the City of DuBois and Sandy Township in Clearfield County. This will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and motorists along these routes.

This project, which first got underway in summer of 2024, includes sidewalk and trail improvements on Maple Avenue between the intersection of 7th Street and Shaffer Road, and continues on Shaffer Road to the intersection of the Beaver Meadow Walkway. Curb installation, signing, placing of pavement markings, and drainage improvements will also be completed as part of the ongoing Maple Avenue improvement project opportunity 7800

Alternating lane closures will be utilized with flaggers providing traffic control during daylight hours. Motorists are asked to stay alert and watch for workers in the roadway.

John Nastase Construction of Snow Shoe, PA, is the contractor on this $896,000 project. PennDOT anticipates completion in May.

Motorists are advised that a bridge replacement project is set to begin next week on Canada Road (Route 2025) in Covington Township, Tioga County. The bridge was damaged beyond repair in August 2024, after excessive rain from Hurricane Debby caused flash flooding in the region. 

Starting on Monday, March 31, 2025, the contractor, L.C. Whitford Company, Inc., will begin construction of the new bridge over Marvin Creek. The bridge will be replaced with a pre-stressed concrete beam bridge.

A detour using Old State Road (Route 2022) and Williamson Road (Route 2005) is currently in place. 

L.C. Whitford Company, Inc., is the prime contractor for this $1.2 million bridge replacement project. Work on this project includes construction of a pre-stressed concrete beam bridge, approach work, paving, line painting, and guide rail upgrades. Work on this project is anticipated to be completed by September 2025, weather permitting.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.

He is currently working in a restaurant in his hometown of Smethport, PA, where he continues to sharpen his skills. Aidan strives for perfection in the kitchen, always stays busy, and brings a great personality to every task.
