Registration is now open for Hamilton-Gibson Productions’ annual trip to the renowned repertory theater, the Shaw Festival, in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. 

Since its humble beginnings in 1962, the Shaw Festival has grown to become a major Canadian cultural icon with 10 or more productions each year performed in three theatres for an audience of more than 250,000.

Adam Cyr of Bolivar has announced he is running for Allegany County Treasurer, as the position is open for the 2025 general election.

Cyr is currently an Allegany County Legislator serving District III. He said it’s time to step away from that position and part of his business to focus on the Allegany County Treasurer’s office.

“For three years as a county legislator and running Cyrco Construction for 25 years, I’ve talked to residents all over Allegany County and have heard what they want to see from the treasurer’s office and how they would like to see their money spent as taxpayers,” Cyr said.

‘Lunch and Learn’ at Noon; Open House with Congressional Candidate Tom Carle from 2-6pm

Bring a bag lunch and a beverage, and join fellow Democrats for our next “Lunch and Learn” program on Wed., August 21st at noon.  Titled, “UUP and Politics: How the Union within SUNY Advocates for Candidates and Legislation,” we’ll learn how the United University Professions (UUP) is an ally in Allegany County and beyond. 

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work to trim and remove trees along Route 44 in Hebron, Clara, and Sharon townships and along Route 1005 in Pike Township, Potter County, began on Monday, August 12. This work will enhance driver safety and extend the life of the roadway surface.

Due to recent circumstances affecting our communities in Tioga and Potter Counties, Pennsylvania, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the upcoming “Seeds of Hope” Celebrations in both counties.

The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers, through its Northeastern Potter Economic Development Association (NEPEDA) Fund, seeks proposals from non-profit 501 (c)3 organizations or charitable programs in the Northeastern region of Potter County. This includes Allegany Township, Bingham Township; Harrison Township; Hector Township; Genesee Township; and Ulysses Borough and Township.

Galeton, PA;  Trump Supporters as well as those wishing to raise funds for local flood victims are expected to turn out “Bigly” to show support for their favorite President Donald J. Trump!  In 2020, approximately 600 motorcycle riders participated in the original ride “Trump Thunder in God’s Country”-followed one month later with “Trump Thunder in Canyon Country” which attracted almost 400 riders as well. 

Pay It Forward

 A new year represents many things to many people. For some it is a time for new beginnings. Away with the old and in with the new. The first thing I did on January 1^st was to start a new calendar and journal. The second thing was to clean off my desk so that I could have a quiet and neat place to work and write. Let’s see how long this will last. Intentions, although good, are often forgotten about soon after starting. There is another which I’m planning on starting and that is developing a habit of “Paying it forward.” Paying it forward is simply the act of passing on a good deed to someone other than the one who passed it to you. It can be a perfect stranger, or someone you know. It includes the challenge for that person to do the same. And the good news is you don’t have to wait for someone to do it to you. You can be the first to start the ball rolling.

In Luke 6:38 Jesus said, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Part of the blessings we receive is not in money or things but in joy, inner satisfaction and peace. These are the things that money cannot buy but something that every person wants.

We live in a culture of what is often called “Meism.” The dictionary defines it as simply being “a focus on, or obsession with, oneself.” It’s about what we want, what we don’t have and think we should. You hear it wherever you go. Retailers play into it and try to convince you that they have exactly what you need and obviously should have. Personally, I have to chuckle because every time I buy the newest and best, I learn that something better has just hit the shelves and what I have is now antiquated.

So, here’s the challenge. Look for a situation that you can practice a “Pay It Forward” moment. I can’t tell you what that will look like, but I believe you’ll know it when you see it. Then just do it. Trust me, you’ll be blessed. Think about it.

OLEAN, N.Y., August 15 – Three local graduates recently received scholarship awards from funds managed by the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation.

Alexander Linderman and Riti Anumalasetty received the OHS Class of 1961 Scholarship for $650 each.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has two new Deputy Executive Directors.

David J. Gustafson, who had directed the agency’s Bureau of Wildlife Habitat Management, has taken over the Deputy Executive Director role vacated when Stephen Smith became Executive Director, and Kelly O’Donnell, who comes to the Game Commission from the state Department of Agriculture, has begun work in the Deputy Executive Director position that opened when Deana Vance retired.
