Smethport Community Fireworks June 22nd

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in Potter County the week of June 24. PennDOT performs year-round maintenance in its mission to provide a safe, efficient transportation system, and the scope of work in Potter County for the coming week is as follows:
Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning
Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with an age of more than 50 years on average. Preventive maintenance is vital in extending the life of the structures. As such, PennDOT maintenance crews perform some bridge deck patching and structural repairs.
Manual Patching
Most permanent pothole patching is completed in the spring/summer when temperatures stay consistently above freezing. If maintenance crews were not repairing potholes, the road surface would break up further and require more expensive corrective measures.
Grading & Reshaping
Grading and reshaping of unpaved roads is necessary to remove buildup along the shoulder area from shifting material. It also removes rutting and corrugations from the roadway and reestablishes the crown in the roadway surface. Other benefits to this maintenance activity include proper drainage and dust control.
Pipe Replacing & Cleaning
Pipe replacement and cleaning are essential in maintaining water flow around state roadways. Controlling water flow is one of the most important aspects of maintaining pavements. Uncontrolled water flow will damage both the pavement surface and the area under the pavement, which causes deterioration across the length of the pipe.
Side Dozing
Side dozing removes excess material from beneath guide rail areas, which improves drainage and allows water to sheet flow off the roadway. Side dozing is a crucial highway maintenance operation because when drainage systems do not function properly, water collects on the road, weakens pavement, accelerates the formation of potholes, and creates the potential for icing conditions in the winter months.
Signing
Signs are the most prominent way PennDOT communicates roadway safety and other information to our customers. County maintenance organizations have crews responsible for installing and repairing signage along state roads and reviewing installed signs to determine if replacements are needed. Reasons for replacing a sign include age, vandalism, or damage.
Vegetation Management
Mowing, herbicide spraying, and selected tree thinning help maintain a safe roadway free of obstructing vegetation, improving visibility to spot signage, traffic control devices, and other motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians, and animals approaching the road. Additionally, a well-maintained roadside can improve drainage and prolong the life of the roadway.
This schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, emergencies, or other unforeseen interruptions.

RIDGWAY – The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission (North Central) hosted a Lender’s Brunch in Kane on June 20 at Six&Kane featuring financial experts who offered tips for navigating regional programs and financial resources that are available to businesses within the six-county region.
Sponsored by North Central, the event featured speakers from the commission’s Business Lending Program, the PennWest Clarion Small Business Development Center, Pursuit, and The Progress Fund. The brunch event was catered by Table 105 in Kane.

Acclaimed musicians coming Saturday
A critically acclaimed national recording group will be performing a free public concert indoors at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum at 7 pm on Saturday, June 22.
Potter County Creative Council (PC3), the new countywide arts and culture organization, presents the California Guitar Trio for a program from multiple genres – from classical to rock, from jazz to world music.
Opening the show with brief performances will be local school musicians Ronan Bray on guitar and Lillian Vought on ukelele, as part of PC3’s commitment to integrate school-based music, art and theater programs into its mission. Donations to support the work of PC3 will be accepted at the door.
Comprised of Bert Lams, Tom Griesgraber and Paul Richards, the California Guitar Trio has been establishing a unique, personal connection with audiences for more than 30 years.
In addition to dazzling musicianship and interplay, CGT shows are full of captivating stories and humor.
One reviewer wrote, “The universe of guitar knows no boundaries for the California Guitar Trio. They have a way of making concertgoers feel like they are part of the music.”
CGT has toured extensively – more than 2,000 gigs – and collaborated with exploratory rock bands such as Yes and King Crimson, along with Taj Mahal, John McLaughlin, the California Symphony, Rick Wakeman and others.
Saturday’s concert is made possible through support from the Pa. Council on the Arts. PC3 is also supported by the Potter County Commissioners as a component of the “Revitalize Potter County” initiative to reverse population losses and outmigration of young adults by making Potter County communities more vibrant and appealing.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is asking hunters to provide feedback on their antlerless deer license buying experience this summer.
License sales get underway Monday, June 24 at 8 a.m., when antlerless deer licenses will be available for the three Wildlife Management Units where demand is highest – WMUs 1B, 2G and 3A. Licenses in these WMUs will be sold on a first come, first serve basis until the allotted number of licenses sells out, and only Pennsylvania residents may purchase antlerless licenses initially.
Then, from Thursday, June 27 through Sunday, July 7, antlerless licenses for the remaining 19 WMUs will be available to residents. Those seeking licenses in any of these WMUs won’t need to wait in line for them; they’re guaranteed to get one, as long as they buy before 7 a.m. on Monday, July 8 – when the resident-only portion of the first round of antlerless license sales ends.
