Maxine Taucher, 97, previously of Highland Road in Kane, PA
Maxine Taucher, 97, previously of Highland Road in Kane, PA passed away Friday (June 7) at UPMC-Kane. She was born on April 3, 1927 in Kane, the daughter of the late Maximilian and Theresa (Ostrouska) Taucher.
Maxine graduated from Kane High School in 1945. She worked her entire career as a Field Clerk for National Fuel Gas Co. She was an active member of St. Callistus Catholic Church, where she had helped to provide funeral luncheons to hundreds of families throughout the years.
Alice M. Gannon, 92, of Mt. Jewett, PA
Alice M. Gannon, 92, of Mt. Jewett, PA died on May 28, 2024, at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center following a determined and courageous journey.
Born on February 4, 1932, in Kane, PA, she was the daughter of Allan S. and Margaret (Tracy) Monroe.
Alice was a 1949 graduate of Bennett High School in Buffalo, NY and a University of Rochester School of Nursing graduate in 1953. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Clarion State College in 1977 and earned her Master of Science in Education Degree from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY in 1992.
Alice began her career after graduation as a Registered Nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. In 1954 she accepted a position at Bellevue Hospital in New York City where she served as Head Nurse and was the Supervisor of the Ambulance Service and Disaster Unit. Alice worked as a nurse at Richmond Memorial Hospital in Staten Island, NY. until 1960, then she devoted the next 17 years to the love and care of her growing family. In 1977 she continued her career as a supervisor for the McKean County VNA until 1979. Alice returned to Buffalo, NY in 1983 and worked at Independent Health as a Utilization Review Specialist until her retirement in 1994.

Friendship Man Arrested On Drug Charges
Cuba Police Department
On June 7th, 2024, at approximately 5:00 PM, following an investigation by the Cuba Police Department Narcotics Unit, Cuba Police arrested Robert C. Schappacher (43) of Friendship, NY.
Schappacher was arrested after a Grand Jury issued an indictment warrant on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd (Felony), criminal sale of a controlled substance 3rd (Felony), criminal possession of a controlled substance 5th (Felony) and criminal sale of a controlled substance 5th (Felony).
Schappacher was processed, placed in front of a judge and sent to the Allegany County Jail on no bail.
Schappacher is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. These charges stem from the alleged sale of methamphetamine in the Town and Village of Cuba. The Narcotics Unit was assisted by the Allegany County District Attorney’s Office.

5465 ROUTE 49, Apt , DEERFIELD
Dept 6,14,25,26, Wellsboro hospital medics dispatched for a MVA reported one vehicle over the embankment. Chief 5-20 had been driving that way and stopped to assist and provided some updated information. Captain 3-80 stopped to assist as well. Chief 6-20 and Rescue 6-8 arrived on scene and Rescue 6-8 began to evaluate the patient. Patient had no injuries. Chief 6-20 recalled dept 14 and the medics. Ambulance 26-6 arrived on scene and did a quick verbal confirmation that dept 6 would handle the patient refusal as they got dispatched to another call in Westfield. Dept 6 remained on scene for a short while longer while Whites repair removed the vehicle and then all Dept 6 units went back into service.

Carroll David GOODLIFF, 96, of Belmont, NY, died Thursday, June 6, 2024 in his home.
Born November 24, 1927, in Nile, he was the son of Homer Grant and Blanche Rose Swartout Goodliff. He was married to the former Helen Elizabeth Reynolds, who predeceased him on February 1, 2021. He attended the one room schoolhouse in Nile and later Friendship Central School.

David James “Jimmy” Geci, 80, of Austin, PA, formerly of Emporium and St. Marys, passed away on the morning of June 4, 2024, at UPMC Cole in Coudersport, PA, following a brief illness. David lived a full and vibrant life, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories.
David had a deep passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and found great joy in working outside, especially when it came to pulling dandelions. His connection with nature was profound, and he took pride in maintaining and nurturing the environment around him.
David attended St. Mary’s Schools and then served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He married the late Sharon Gennocro Geci in Emporium, sharing many loving years together.
David was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. His warmth, kindness, and unwavering support were felt by all who knew him. His presence will forever be missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Coudersport Man Indicted For Murder of Brandon Shepker In Lewis County, NY
LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) – A 24-year-old Coudersport man was indicted on a murder charge by a Lewis County grand jury on Friday, June 7.
Jacob Vanbergen of Coudersport, Pa. was handed an indictment for second-degree murder in the alleged killing of 39-year-old Brandon Shepker, also of Coudersport, Pa., on January 6 at the Ridge View Lodge in Lowville. Shepker was sharing a room with Vanbergen when the alleged incident occurred.
Potter County man charged with murder in Lewis County death
Authorities investigated and alleged injuries were “consistent with a physical altercation and strangulation.”

Alberta G. Dunbar, 97, formerly of Bolivar, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024 after a brief illness.
Born on November 8, 1926, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, she was a daughter of John E. and Gladys Livingston Somers. On February 14, 1943, in West Barnet, Vermont, she married Kenneth Dunbar who predeceased her on August 23, 2004.
She had been employed by Evergreen Dairy of Bolivar from 1965-1980 and also owned and operated Kenny’s Friendly Gas Station with her husband, Kenneth and sons until 1979. In addition, she wallpapered, caned chairs, and made Christmas wreaths and garland.
Alberta was a member of the Bolivar United Methodist Church, Allegany County Senior Citizens, the exercise class, the Little Genesee Quilting Club, and Heritage Aflame Ladies prayer group.
She will be remembered for her beautiful handmade quilts, delicious fudge, and divinity.

Joshua Frederoski of the City of Bradford Police Department. Your actions were nothing short of heroic. Your professional training and experience were pivotal in bringing a dangerous situation to a peaceful resolution, ensuring the safety of our communities.
To all additional responding law enforcement agencies, EMS, and officers involved: the response I witnessed was one of the finest I have ever seen in our area. The teamwork and collaboration were exemplary. This was a defining moment, showcasing the strength and effectiveness of our services in McKean County.
