Route 15 High Friction Surface Treatment Project Begins Next Week in Lycoming County

​Montoursville, PA â€“ Motorists are advised that a high friction surface treatment project on Route 15 in both directions in Lewis and Loyalsock townships, Lycoming County is set to begin next week.

Beginning Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the contractor, Venture Construction, along with sub-contractors, will apply a high friction wearing surface treatment on Route 15 northbound and southbound at the following locations:

  • Route 15 northbound in the area of Powey’s curve, approximately 3.5 miles south of the Trout Run off ramp to Route 14, in Lewis Township, Lycoming County.
  • Route 15 southbound from approximately one mile north to one mile south of the Trout Run off ramp to Route 14 in Lewis Township, Lycoming County.

Ulysses Woman Takes Back Her Independence with Help from Her UPMC Physician

COUDERSPORT, Pa., May 2, 2024 — Robin Freeman, Ulysses, was lying in bed one night in October 2021 when her dog, frightened by a thunderstorm outside, jumped on the bed. The 95-pound black Lab mix landed directly on her heel.

Afterward, she dealt with pain but didn’t think much of it. But when the pain didn’t go away, she went for X-rays. The scans didn’t reveal anything, but the pain continued to bother her. So, she visited John Dresser, D.P.M., a podiatrist at UPMC Cole.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans revealed Robin had significant arthritic changes throughout her foot related to a longstanding flat foot deformity. Although she could manage the pain with a walking boot and cortisone shots, surgery was another option. She decided to move forward with the surgery.

Construction Project Continues Along Interstate 180 in Lycoming County

​Montoursville, PA â€“ Motorists are advised that a two-year roadway project continues along Interstate 180 eastbound and westbound in Montoursville Borough, and Loyalsock, Fairfield, and Muncy townships in Lycoming County.

Beginning on Monday, May 6, 2024, the contractor will be working primarily on the shoulder. Lane restrictions will not be required for this shoulder work.

Construction Project Set to Begin Next Week in Mansfield Borough, Tioga County

​Montoursville, PA â€“ Motorists are advised a two-year bridge rehabilitation project is set to begin next week on Routes 6 and 2005 (Main Street) in Tioga County.

Beginning Monday, May 6, 2024, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., will begin construction which includes milling and resurfacing 0.5 miles of Route 6 between the Tioga River and Swan Street in Mansfield Borough and 3.8 miles of Route 2005 (Main Street) between Decker Street in Richmond Township and East Main Street in Mansfield Borough.

Additional work includes drainage improvements, utility relocations, construction of ADA ramps, and rehabilitation and deck preservation of the bridge that carries Route 6 over the Tioga River in Mansfield Borough.

Closure of Allegany County Road #2 in Town of Almond

Please be advised that Allegany County DPW will have daily road closures of County Road # 2 between I-86 (Almond exit) and Dixon Road intersections from May 8 through May 23 for the purpose of replacing culvert pipes. The road will only be closed during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and will be opened back up for use at night and weekends. There will not be an on-site detour and motorists are urged to seek alternate routes.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Smethport – Eleanor Mary Montgomery, 78, of Smethport, PA passed away Saturday (February 10, 2024) at Sena Kean Manor, Smethport.

A memorial service will be held on May 4, 2024 at 11AM in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Smethport. Burial with graveside committal will be in Bells Run Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes, Inc., Smethport.

Richard K. Michuck, 69, of 34 Carr Lane, St. Marys, PA

Richard K. Michuck, affectionately known as Rat, of 34 Carr Lane, St. Marys, PA passed away at the age of 69, following a lengthy illness Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Penn Highlands DuBois with his children by his side.

He was born June 13, 1954, son of Jean Weidow Wise and the late Joseph Michuck, II.  He was a lifelong resident of the area, attended St. Marys schools, retired from Powder Metal Products, and was a committed member of the Crystal Fire Department for 30 years, where he was a deputy fire chief for some of those years.

Louise E. MERRELL, 65, of Cuba, NY, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 in her home. 

Born December 28, 1958, in Cuba, she was the daughter of Roswell H. and Ethel Mae Sprague Gowdy.  On September 25, 1982, in Avon, she married George W. Merrell, who survives. 

A graduate of Belmont Central School, she was a stay-at-home mother.  Her children and grandchildren were her world and she loved spending every minute she could with them.  Louise enjoyed walking and spending time outside, and loved roosters.

 Lane Crawford (11th grade, PASD) and Levi Howard (11th grade, PASD) students in Mr. Bryant’s Networking and Security shop at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center, recently earned their Digital Literacy Pro Certifications. These certifications mark the fourth such achievement for both Lane and Levi. They previously earned their PC Pro, Network Pro, and Security Pro certifications. In addition, Lane and Levi are currently seeking their Ethical Hacker Pro certifications. Thomas R. Miller, Jr., 73, of 187 West Washington Street, Bradford, PA

Thomas R. Miller, Jr., 73, of 187 West Washington Street, Bradford, passed away Monday, April 29, 2024, at UPMC Hamot.

Born October 30, 1950, in Buffalo, he was a son of the late Thomas “Dick” Miller Sr. and Laura V. (Iverson) Miller. He moved to Bradford with his mother and brother in 1960.  He was a 1969 graduate from Bradford High School.

In his younger years, Tommy was active in the Special Olympics, excelling in bowling, swimming, and softball.  Tommy moved into residential housing through Evergreen Elm in April of 1987.  For the past couple of decades, he was a member of the Kiwanis Aktion Club, where he was involved in various service projects.

Blake Cool is Student of the Week at Seneca Highlands CTC

Blake Cool is a third year senior in the Welding program from Cameron County. Blake has a genuine desire to learn as much as he can in the welding field. He spends as much time as he can under the hood practicing and perfecting his technique. He has shown that he has good leadership qualities as group foreman in the shop. Blake has also started welding out in the field and is really enjoying using his skills to begin earning a living. Blake will be a great asset wherever he ends up in the workforce.
