The Potter County Farmers Market will be outdoors on the square across from the county jail, every Friday from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. The next market will be this Friday, May 3rd. Below is a list of who plans to be there and what they plan on bringing to the Market:
* The outdoor market is held each Friday from May through October (weather permitting). November, the Farmers Market goes indoors for the winter market.

Spring Showcase 2024 at PAHS by the Port Allegany Music Department
Spring Showcase 2024 was presented Friday night at PAHS by the Port Allegany Music Department. A variety of music, including a couple of originals, were performed. Hosts for the evening were Lily Babcock and Lillianne Reed. First up was I Remember Everything with Amber Funk and Henry Troupe, vocals and Henry on guitar. Jolene was sung by Darian Mosher and Bella Shaffer-Lannager with vocal music instructor Rachael Karwowski on guitar. Riptide was next with Chloe Triplett and Lily Madison, vocals and Lily on Ukulele. No Children was sung by Ade Langfitt followed by Godspeed with Henry Troupe, vocals and guitar.

RIDGWAY – The Pennsylvania Women’s, Infants, and Children (WIC) program will be holding virtual public meetings throughout May to solicit feedback and suggestions on how to improve the program.
Upcoming Suicide Prevention Training for Mental Health Awareness Month
St. Marys, Pa. — May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and Penn State Extension Educators, in collaboration with the Cameron/Elk Suicide Prevention Task Force, will lead a training, “Question, Persuade and Refer,” developed by the QPR Institute. Participants can learn to recognize warning signs of suicide in friends, coworkers, family members, or neighbors in need.
Cuba’s Ron Truax Honored for Service to Allegany County
At the April 24 Legislative Board meeting, the Allegany County Board of Legislators adopted a resolution recognizing Ronald B. Truax of Cuba for service to his community and Allegany County.
Ronald Truax was born and raised in Cuba, New York, and graduated from both Houghton University and Alfred University.
North Central Export Hosting Training Seminar
RIDGWAY – The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission’s (North Central) NC Export Marketing Program is co-sponsoring a pair of training events in State College designed to help companies who export their products better serve overseas customers.
The event is being held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at 200 Innovation Blvd., Room 243, State College, PA. The event is free of charge, and the deadline to register is May 15. The event includes a continental breakfast, refreshments, course materials, and certificate of completion.
Route 15 SB Closed in City of Williamsport, Lycoming County
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that Route 15 southbound is closed at the Route 220 southbound exit in the City of Williamsport Lycoming County, due to a vehicle crash.
A detour using Route 220 southbound, Reach Road, Route 220 northbound, and Interstate 180 is in place. The roadway is expected to be closed for several hours.

Wolfinger Family Fund bolsters local school districts
OLEAN, N.Y., May 2 – The Wolfinger Family Donor Advised Fund at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation recently provided $4,607 in grants to area school districts to provide for special projects and educational enrichment programming.
The Wolfinger Family Fund was established in 2019 by Connie and Harold “Sandy” Wolfinger to provide annual support for educational programming and enrichment opportunities for area students.
The Smethport Area School District received $1,000: $500 each for the Smethport DECA Field Trip Fund and the PA Elk Restoration Unit and Wildlife Comparative Anatomy & Classification.

Larry S. JAMES, 74, of Andrews Settlement, PA, died Wednesday, May 1, 2024 in his home.
Born July 18, 1949, in Coudersport, he was the son of Truman H. and Corrine E. Chilson James. On November 27, 1982, in Ulysses, he married Gina M. Calcote, who survives.
A 1967 graduate of Northern Potter High School, he was employed by CNG / Dominion for 35 years. Larry was a member of Potter County Anglers Club.
Lukas A. “Luke” Slosser, 23, Sigel, PA
Lukas A. “Luke” Slosser, 23, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, in Sigel, PA.
He was born on September 9, 2000 in Clarion, PA, the son of Paul and Judith Atwell Slosser.
Luke attended Venango Regional Vo-Tech in Oil City and was employed as an Operations Engineer for Catalyst Energy. He had a passion for all things mechanical, a true gear-head who loved Dodge Cummins diesel trucks, and never passing up the chance to buy and fix up a truck.
An avid outdoorsman, Luke could often be found hunting and fishing. With a great love for motocross, Luke always reveled in the thrill of riding dirt bikes and spending the day with friends on the track. Luke also found solace on the farm, nurturing a special bond with animals and spending time there with his parents.
A devoted father, Luke cherished his son, Lane, who was his pride and joy. His bond with his family was unwavering and filled with love. Luke’s loyalty extended to his faithful companion, his dog Ellie, who shared in his adventures and provided him with endless joy. Luke always cheered on the underdog, had the biggest heart, and was a friend to all. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his loving parents, Paul and Judy Slosser, he is survived by his beloved son; Lane Slosser, and by his maternal grandmother; Dorothy Campbell Atwell of Reading, MA. He is also survived by two aunts; Susan (Ronnie) Colburne and Linda (Bruce) Goodwin, both of North Reading, MA, and by two uncles; Robert (Patty) Slosser and David Slosser, both of Bessemer, PA, as well as by numerous cousins and good friends.
Luke was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Robert and Phylis Snyder Slosser and by his maternal grandfather; Richard Atwell.
A Memorial Service for Lukas A. Slosser is being planned and will be announced at a later date.

Shirley J. McGonnell, 89, of 25 Mark Street, St. Marys, PA passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Penn Highlands Elk Hospital.
She was born May 26, 1934 in Willimantic, CT to the late Carl and Margaret Anderson Warren. She was a graduate of Indiana High School, Class of 1951 and continued her education graduating from Indiana State Teacher’s College Class, of 1955. She started her teaching career in Port Allegany in 1955 and continued teaching for over 35 years. With the majority spent teaching kindergarten and 2nd grade at South St. Marys Street Elementary, she continued to volunteer there for many years after her retirement.
Shirley married the love of her life, the late James A. McGonnell on June 1, 1957 in St. Gabriel’s Church in Port Allegheny. Jim and Shirley were married for over 62 years. Jim preceded her in death on June 17, 2019.

Potter County Seeks Volunteers For Important Agencies

Potter County Commissioners Nancy Grupp, Paul Heimel and Robert Rossman continue to seek volunteers willing to serve on any of several county authorities, commissions and advisory boards. In an effort to broaden diversity, geographic representation and background knowledge, the Board of Commissioners periodically issues call for volunteers. Goal is to build a roster of qualified individuals who have a willingness to serve. As vacancies arise or incumbents’ terms expire, the commissioners will rely on that these rosters to determine potential appointees for agencies such as:
Potter County Planning Commission. Administers subdivision and land use/development regulations; countywide comprehensive planning; regional advocacy on transportation funding priorities and other initiatives; GIS services; reliable resource/liaison for township and borough governments.
Potter County Redevelopment Authority. Economic development; support services for business and industry; administration of federal/state grants and loans for economic development.
Potter County Housing Authority. Administration of programs meeting needs for safe, healthy and affordable housing.
Potter County Human Services. Multiple advisory boards to guide administrators on meeting local social service needs.
Potter County Solid Waste Authority. Operation of transfer station/recycling center in Gold; administration of state-approved solid waste management/flow ordinance.
Potter County Hospital Authority. Public agency assisting UPMC Cole in acquisition of funds for capital improvements and implementation of long-term planning objectives.
Farmland Preservation Board. Responsible for purchase of development rights to preserve agricultural land.
Local Emergency Planning Committee. Coordinates activities of firefighters, emergency medical services, fire police and related responders; liaison with Potter County Department of Emergency Services for training, funding opportunities, drills/exercises to test preparedness.

Joseph P. “Moe” Cardoni, 87, of 3377 Long Level Rd., Johnsonburg, PA
Joseph P. “Moe” Cardoni, 87, of 3377 Long Level Rd., Johnsonburg, PA passed away peacefully with his family by his side, late Tuesday evening, April 30, 2024, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Johnsonburg on March 13, 1937, a son to the late Nicholas and Mary Cherry Cardoni. He married Evelyn Mannella, she passed January 5, 1968. On September 26, 1970, in Holy Rosary Church he married Dorothy E. “Dot” Kennedy. She passed October 6, 2021.
A lifelong resident of Johnsonburg, Moe attended Johnsonburg High School. He was a member of Holy Rosary Church and the Prince of Piedmont Club. Moe loved to be around his family and enjoyed his Sunday dinners. He was an avid gardener, canner and loved to cook. He also loved to go fishing and hunting.
A Veteran of the US Air Force, Moe served as an Airman First Class, aircraft mechanic, with 393rdBomb Squadron from 1954 to 1958.
In 1998, Moe retired from Carbon Graphite in St. Marys after over 50 years of service. After retirement, he worked for several years at the St. Marys WalMart.
Rev. Peter A. DeVantier, age 82, of Wellsboro, PA,
Rev. Peter A. DeVantier, age 82, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. He was born on January 1, 1942 in Sanborn, NY a son of the late Alfred and Martha (Williams) DeVantier and was married to the late Judith A. (Simson) DeVantier for 60 years.
He attended St. James Lutheran Elementary School, Betgholz, NY, and Starpoint Central High School, Lockport, NY. Pete graduated from Buffalo State College with a Master of Education Degree.
He was an art teacher for 23 years at the North Tonawanda High School. After he retired from teaching, he received his Master of Divinity Degree from Concordia Seminary. He was the pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Wellsboro, PA for 27 years.
Pete was a member of the Wellsboro Lions Club, the Wellsboro Men’s Chorus and was the Chaplain for the Wellsboro Fire Department for many years. He was an avid gardener, artist and birdwatcher.
Pastor Pete is survived by a son: Brian (Phil Ammons) DeVantier of CT, daughters: Kim (Kerry) Taylor of North Tonawanda, NY, Heather (David) Benedict of Wellsboro, PA, Jennifer Pinto of Westchester, NY, brother: Fredric (Pam) DeVantier of Sanborn, NY, sister-in-law: Jacqueline Rollison of Lancaster, NY, 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 9 to 11 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Wellsboro, PA. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Joseph Weatherell and Pastor Barry Keurulainen officiating. Interment will be in the Shumway Hill Cemetery, Wellsboro, PA.

NC PREP to host cybersecurity event
RIDGWAY – The North Central Pennsylvania Regional Planning and Development Commission’s NC PREP program will be hosting a cybersecurity seminar at 1 p.m. on June 17.
The event is open to all businesses.
The seminar will focus on best practices for cybersecurity and will be led by Nate Rodgers from Omnis Technologies. Companies will have the opportunity to learn about cybersecurity threats and how they can protect their information from hackers.
Topics will also include investing in ongoing training and research to stay ahead of emerging threats, creating personalized security strategies to address your challenges, and ensuring participants will learn all the relevant industry standards and regulations will all be covered.
