Logan has been a dedicated member of Mr. Miller’s Building Construction Occupations Class at Seneca Highlands CTC for three years, where he has consistently demonstrated hard work, a positive attitude, and exceptional focus.
Dale L. “Uncle Dale” Southard, 66, of Main St. passed away on Sunday (April 21st, 2024).
Born on October 29, 1957 he was the son of Lewis F. and Catherine Baker Southard. He was a 1975 graduate of Otto Eldred High School and then attended Toni and Guy Barber’s school in Erie, Pa.
Dale was a life long resident in Eldred and owned and operated Dale’s Barber Styling since 1986. He was a drummer in several local bands including Imagine, Tradewind, Shuffle, and Alabama Rain. He also played softball for “Skeeters Inn” and “The Dukes”
Dale was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Most of all, he was a great uncle to everyone and loved spending Wednesdays and Sundays at his sisters house with family. He was affectionately known as “Floyd the Barber” by all the locals.
The 2024 Wine Walk has been deemed a big success by organizers. This year’s participants included the Moose Family Center with registration; Allegheny Cellars Winery at Baxter Hardware, LLC; Uncle D’s Sassy Glass Winery at Rustic Roots; Twisted Vine Winery at Olson-Tenglund, Inc.; Laurel Mountain Winery at Trail’s End Realty; Brokenstraw Valley Winery at Mid-Town Motel; Flickerwood Wine Cellars at Mountain Laurel Federal Credit Union; Bear Creek Wines at A Stitch in Time; Mountain Winery at Neighborhood School of Dance; Sugar Bush Winery at Karen’s Hairstyling Salon; Triple Nickel Distillery at GLC; and The Winery at Wilcox at Port Notary Service and Kim Nelson HHP. The Port Allegany Senior Center will benefit from the proceeds of the 2024 Wine Walk.
The Port Allegany Music Department will present the 2024 Spring Showcase on Friday, April 26 at PAHS. Show time is 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $3 and available at the door. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. There is first come, first serve seating. The Showcase will feature bands, jokes, original compositions and more!! Pictured are three of the Showcase performers – Isaac Barber, Henry Troupe and Amber Funk, all members of the Class of 2024. The program is under the direction of high school vocal instructor Rachael Karwowski.
At tonight’s council meeting, Bradford native Brett Butler will be sworn in as the new fire chief for the City of Bradford after former fire chief Eric Taylor assumed the city administrator role. Brett started out in emergency services as a volunteer with Bradford Twp VFD and from there started a career with the City FD in 2012. Brett is a true professional and will take us to the next level of professionalism and service to our community. We have confidence that he will lead with distinction, fostering a strong culture of service, honor and professionalism in our Fire Department. Brett has a management and business degree from The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford as well as advanced fire, rescue and EMS training including fire officer certifications. He resides in our community with his wife and new born son. We wish Brett many years of success as Chief of the department.
When the Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s golf team won the United East Championship last spring, coach Rob Lytle called it a “great, great tune-up because I believe we’ll be doing this again, year after year.”
After one of the most competitive fall and spring seasons in program history on some of the most challenging courses several of his players have experienced, Lytle has his team primed and ready for this Saturday and Sunday’s UE Championship at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon, where the winner also earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Championship.

On April 24, at 2:39 am Olean Fire Dept was dispatched to 623 Seneca Ave. for a house fire. The structure is occupied. Update everyone has evacuated the structure. Portville, Allegany,and Westons Mills were also dispatched.
The Bradford Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the Annual Meeting & Award Presentation on May 2 at the Pennhills Club. The event includes the presentation of 5 annual awards to the Bradford Community. The five awards include: Exemplary Business, Community & Spirit, Director’s Award, Small Business and Legacy Award.

EPA announces selectees under Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund grant competition to deliver solar to low-income and disadvantaged households through the President’s Investing in America agenda.
PHILADELPHIA (April 22, 2024) – Today, as the Biden-Harris Administration celebrates Earth Day, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority has been selected to receive over $156 million through the Solar for All grant competition to develop long-lasting solar programs that enable low income and disadvantaged communities to deploy and benefit from distributed residential solar. This award is part of the historic $27 billion Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, which was created under President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act to lower energy costs for families, create good-quality jobs in communities that have been left behind, advance environmental justice, and tackle the climate crisis.
Gwenyth Mitchell, a senior from Portville High School, has been chosen to attend this year’s Students Inside Albany program sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State Education Foundation, Inc. This long standing annual Students Inside Albany program will take place from May 19-22, 2024 and will bring 60 students from across the state to Albany to get a first-hand education about their state government. The program is designed to increase high school students’ awareness of their responsibility in representative government and provide information about the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility.
While at the conference, students will join their peers in a hands-on learning experience about how state government works. Students will participate in a series of interactive lectures on topics such as the state budget process, the role of lobbyists in the legislative process, citizen rights to access government information, the role of media in politics, and the move to reform state government. While in Albany, the students will have an opportunity to tour the state’s Capitol. The highlight for most students is the opportunity to shadow their Senators and their Assemblymembers for an afternoon attending session on the Chamber floors.

Chris W. Lane, 67, of Russell, PA, died on Monday April 22, 2024, in his home after an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 pm in St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania Ave., West, Warren, PA. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A complete obituary will be published when it’s available.
David L. DeLullo, Jr., 70, of Silver Creek Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 23, 2024, with his family by his side.

Barbara J. “Barb” Brennen, 76, of 135 Reserve Road, St. Marys, passed away on Monday evening, April 22, 2024, at her residence, surrounded by her four daughters and loving husband, following a three-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Barb was born March 21, 1948, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Wilfred J. “Biff” and Alberta M. “Birdie” Emmert Hoffman.
On August 23, 1969 in Queen of the World Church, she married Bradley C. “Brad” Brennen, her high school sweetheart. They were blessed to know each other most of their lives and to share 54 years of marriage.
Barb was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and graduated from Elk County Christian High School, Class of 1966, where she was Senior Class Secretary.
Mary S. Kostyack, 81, of Barnes, PA., died Tuesday morning, April 23, 2024, at Penn Highlands of Dubois, PA., after an extended illness. She was born November 24, 1942, in Warren, PA. Mary was the daughter of Harry and Eleanor Carlett O’Donnell. She has resided in Barnes, PA., for the past 22 years. Mary was a member of the Sheffield Senior Center and Sheffield Rod & Gun Club. She enjoyed crafting, and time spent with her family, especially during the holidays.
