Harold D. Losey, 98, Pioneer Road, Emporium, PA
Harold D. Losey, 98, Pioneer Road, Emporium, PA, passed away Wednesday afternoon (March 13, 2024).
Born July 12, 1925 in Dents Run, PA a son of the late Lee J. and Daisy C. Rider Losey, he was raised in rural Benezette Township, graduating Benezette High School class of 1942 (class of 5).
The Bennetts Valley area, its mountaintop vistas, feeder trout streams, and old logging roads and abandoned railroads remained a playground his entire life. Working in the area coal industry for a time, he enlisted in the US Army in August of 1944, serving in the Pacific Theatre, and honorably discharged in August 1946.
After service to his country, he returned briefly to the coal industry, but it seemed life had a different calling in mind. A required aptitude test at the St. Mary’s unemployment office identified some talent for mechanical drawing and landed him a drafting position at Sylvania in Emporium in 1948.
A 40 year career in automated equipment design and management ensued, culminating in a final year abroad in Eindhoven, Netherlands, the headquarters for Sylvania successor company Philpis Electronics.
