Bizzak Doubles at Rolfe Beagle Club’s Statewide Coyote and Fox Hunt or Trap
Johnsonburg, Pa.: Josh Bizzak of Wilcox is a well-known predator hunter and trapper. Saturday morning, Josh doubled up on coyotes – one through hunting and one through a cable restraint. Josh was set up for hunting on private land in Elk County and was using an electronic call. A female coyote showed up just before 1:00 a.m. Josh harvested the 31.6# coyote with a .17 Hornet.
While hunting another private area in Elk County later at 3:00 a.m., Josh set up on in the proximity of one of his cable restraints. As luck would have it, when Josh hit his electronic call, he got responses from both sides of the area, and up popped a large coyote. Josh harvested the 43.0# female, but when he went to retrieve his harvest, he found it was in his restraint! That is one of the beauties of being both a trapper and hunter, and entering a Hunt or Trap event.
Josh also showed off a beaver he had trapped earlier in the day.
Hunters are reminded that if they choose to participate during the second weekend of this two-weekend hunt or trap, they must have their registration postmarked by Thursday, 2/15.
Weigh-in is at 4:00 p.m. every day. Categories include coyote, fox, largest female coyote, and largest female fox. Additional information at the Facebook Page, Rolfe Beagle Club.
Super Saturday coming for Penn College athletics
A busy Saturday saw 11 Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestlers place among the top four as first-time members in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. At the same time, the college’s basketball teams moved one game closer to their regular-season finales, which come on Tuesday.
And, it all points to what will be a Super Saturday this coming week with both basketball teams in postseason play, the wrestlers facing crosstown rival Lycoming College at a historic local venue and the college men’s lacrosse team getting its season underway.
