Tuesday, January 30, 2024—McKean County has been awarded grants in direct federal funding for an amount of $17,679 under Phase 41 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP). Each phase requires a separate application and will be voted on separately.
The National Board is comprised of representatives from health and human service agencies across the country. The United States Congress appropriates funds annually to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas nationally.

In team competition, Pennsylvania College of Technology wrestling and basketball squads went a combined 0-7 last week, but three wrestlers went unbeaten in their three matches and each of them posted wins over regionally ranked opponents during the John Reese Duals at Wilkes University on Sunday.

Kaden Ware, of Brooklyn, Connecticut, sixth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III Mideast Regional rankings, had two wins by decision — one over Wilkes’ Michael Richardson, who is ranked fifth in the Southeast Region — and one win by major decision at 133 pounds.
Noah Hunt, of Muncy, fourth in the Mideast, recorded a technical fall, a major decision over Jack Bauer, of Wilkes, ranked seventh in the Southeast that avenged a loss to Bauer a year ago, and added a win by decision at 141.

Johnsonburg, Pa.: Thursday, February 8, is the last date to register for Rolfe Beagle Club’s 8th annual Statewide Coyote and Fox Hunt or Trap. The hunt is scheduled for two weekends in February, 2/9-11 and 2/16-18. Your registration must be received or postmarked on Thursday, February 8, if you plan on hunting both weekends.

Robert L. McFall, age 60, of Emporium, PA passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024, in DuBois Penn Highlands Hospital.
Robert was born on September 14, 1963, in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Rodney and Vivian Lewis McFall. He was a member of the Cameron County High School class of 1982, and after high school Robert joined the US Army Reserves and served from 1982-1988. Following his service Bob was employed for over 30 years by Motor Coils Manufacturing (now Wabtec) in Emporium. On August 11, 2018, he married Kimberly A. Clonan who survives.
In his spare time Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with family. He was also an avid bowler.
Richard G. “Hinder” Geitner, 58, of S. Michael Road, St. Marys, PA passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh following a lengthy illness.
He was born on September 3, 1965 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Gerhart “Gary” Geitner, who preceded him in death in 2003 and Carol Meyer Geitner, who survives of St. Marys.
On October 14, 1989, in St. Marys Church, he married Lori Nasoni, who survives. Together they shared more than 34 years of love and laughter.
Hinder was a 1983 graduate of St. Marys Area High School and had worked at Eastern Sintered Alloys for the past 38 years. He was a longtime member of the Eagles and the Camp Owners. He loved being outdoors, and enjoyed spending time in the woods hunting and going to camp. Most of all, he loved being with his family and being a Papa to his five grandchildren.
Bernard A. “Bernie” Hawks, 76, of Cuba, NY passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024 at home with family by his side after many years of related illnesses to Agent Orange he lost his battle to pancreatic cancer.
Born on January 31, 1947, in Wellsville, he was a son of Robert E. and Isabelle Linza Hawks. On February 22, 1969, in Friendship, he married the former Julie A Graves who survives.
Bernie was a graduate of Richburg Central Schools Class of 1966 where excelled in sports. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-68. For his service he received the Vietnam Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60.
His entire working career was in Tire Sales, but retired from Valley Tire Co., in Olean after 40 years in the tire industry.
Bernie was an active member of the Cuba Methodist Church where he served in many board positions and the Cuba American Legion Post 655. He had coached the Cardinals Little League Team during his son’s youth and was a basketball referee for many years. He was well known in the area for selling tires and attending sporting events.

Linda M. Kemick, 73, of Bradford, PA passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Olean General Hospital.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc. 33 South Ave. followed by funeral services at 6 pm. A complete obituary will follow soon.
M. Phyllis Daly, 92, formerly of Forest Road, St. Marys, PA passed away Friday, January 26, 2024, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois.
She was born January 24, 1932, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Alfred and Frances Meyer Gleixner. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1949 and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. After graduating from Central Catholic, Phyllis continued her education at Seton Hill College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.
On April 24, 1954, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Phyllis married the late Eugene F. Daly, who preceded her in death on July 23, 2008.

On January 28, at 3:21 pm Liberty Fire, Blossburg Ambulance, and Morris Ambulance were dispatched to Rt. 15 South 2 miles North of the Liberty exit for a one vehicle crash with unknown details
On January 28, at 2:56 pm Roulette Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to a one vehicle crash on Rt. 6 near mile marker 171 the vehicle is on its side blocking one lane with possibly no injuries. Roulette has returned to the station apparently the vehicle has left the scene
