At 4:00 PM on Saturday, Otto Township Fire & TLC Ambulance have been dispatched to a 2-vehicle crash in the area of Rt. 46 & Fitch Hill Road.
SHOE WARS AT PAHS
The PAHS National Honor Society is helping the Port Allegany United Methodist Church with a shoe drive beginning Monday, January 22nd through Friday, February 2nd. It’s a great time to clean out your closets and donate new, slightly worn or gently used sneakers, boots, dress shoes and sandals and send them with a high school student to take to their homeroom. The homeroom that collects the highest number of pairs of shoes will win a doughnut party sponsored by the church. The maintenance staff has placed green recycling bins into every homeroom. The donations of footwear are the only items to be placed in these bins. The bins will be emptied and counted on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Sally J. Conner, 75, of Bradford, PA
Sally J. Conner, 75, of Bradford, PA passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Pavilion at BRMC.
She was born on July 28, 1948 in Bradford, a daughter of the late Calvin and Eleanor Milks Abrams.
She was the widow of Andrew Conner; who preceded her in death.
She was a talented crocheter who enjoyed growing flowers in her garden and taking care of her houseplants. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family.
She was employed at the former Anderson’s Diner, Bradford, as a baker for several years.

HAZARDS…Several bands of light to moderate snow accompanied by
wind gusts over 30 mph. This combined with recent powdery snowpack

increasing bands of light ot moderate snow across the northern half
of central Pennsylvania. The bands have a connection to the eastern
Great Lakes, and are moving southeast at 35 mph.

At 3:20 PM on Saturday, Coudersport Ambulance has been called to North Hollow Road for chest pains.
Saturday Morning Crash in Smethport, PA
Smethport Fire Department Inc. is in Smethport.
A second Vehicle vs Building accident this week in the Borough occurred this morning (1/20/24) at aprx 0726 when SFD was dispatched to JB Distributors on E Water St to find a truck had lost control on ice and crashed into the building. .Engine 24 responded and Capt 230 had command. MA-3 was on scene and confirmed no injuries. The vehicle had minor damage and was able to be driven from the scene. Smethport Borough Police were on scene. All Station 2 personnel were back in quarters at 0810.

Draw Down of George B. Stevenson Reservoir to begin Monday, January 22nd.
Sinnemahoning State Park will be drawing down the level of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir starting Monday January 22nd to complete a rehab project on the dam. The draw down will be no more than 10 feet, and will remain down until the project is completed.
The draw down may create dangerous ice conditions and we recommend that visitors stay off the lake until the project is completed and the lake is restored to normal elevation. We will post updates throughout and notify the public when the lake is back at normal elevation.

At 12:40 PM on Saturday, Bradford City Fire & EMS have been dispatched to East Main Street & North Kendall Avenue for a 2-vehicle motor vehicle crash. Minor damage reported.

Potter County Artisan Co-op plans Cross Stitch classes in February
Julia Overton-Healy, Cross Stitch Artist, will be teaching a Beginner Cross Stitch class on Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Potter County Artisan Center. Students are asked to choose two colors when registering. These will be used to create the project, which is the initial of student’s first name. Participants are asked to bring a small pair of sharp scissors. All materials, including the pattern, will be provided.
To register for these classes, please call the center at 814-274-8165. The co-op is located at 227 N. Main Street and is open from 12 pm to 4:00 pm Monday through Saturday.
4-H members from Potter County competed at the 2024 Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg
Last week, eight 4-H members from Potter County competed at the 2024 Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. These members represented the Famous Wabbits and Seedsowers 4-H clubs and competed in a variety of areas, including livestock, photography, and woodworking. The Potter County 4-H program is extremely proud of their hard work and accomplishments with each of their projects this year!

Not surprisingly, NYS Sen. George Borrello takes an extremely partisan position regarding Gov. Kathy Hochul’s recently enacted ‘Birds & Bees Protection Act.’
The Act restricts the use of neonicotinoid-treated seeds, as they are related to hive abandonment syndrome (aka Colony Collapse Distorder) in bees. The Act encourages the development and use of less harmful and more economical alternatives over time.
A toxic pollutant, neonicotinoids (neonics) enter the environment through coated seeds. The toxin then is taken up by the developing plant where pollinators, such as bees and ruby-throated hummingbirds, encounter it in flowers. Only a small percentage of the toxin is used by the plant, with the remainder staying in the soil where it can be taken up by other flowering plants and weeds and enter groundwater.
According to an article published Dec. 23rd in the Wellsville Sun, the good senator claims this Act would hurt NYS farming industry and that the governor enacted the law without any input from state farmers, some of whom oppose the act.
The president of the NYS Farm Bureau, however, according to that same article, stated that the Governor invited input and mediated concerns from all sides, including farmers.
I just wanted to set the record straight.

Don’t Allow Others to Live In Your Head

Don’t allow others to live in your head. What does that mean? Do you? Have you done it? Are you doing it now?
Allowing others to live in your head is simply allowing another person’s words, behavior, or thoughts to occupy your thoughts, emotions, and general well-being. We do this by letting their words etc. eat away at our peace, joy, serenity, and general well-being. Perhaps it was a critical word or look. Maybe it wasn’t what was said, but rather what was implied. We allow it to run around the inside of our heads. Then think of how we could comeback in a response. We rehearse the event over and over without finding a resolution or peace. Instead of having peace and joy, all fruits of the Spirit, we instead have restlessness, self-doubt and find that life is being sucked out of our being. How does this happen and how do we stop the merry-go-round? I wish I had a simple answer.
Recently I realized that I was allowing the comments of another to take up residence in my head. Their words seemed to echo with increasing loudness, interrupting every part of my day. Even my sleep was being interrupted by their nagging words. Everything I tried didn’t seem to work. I didn’t have peace; I wasn’t finding joy. Why was I allowing this to happen? If I was going to survive this bombardment of what felt like a constant intrusion of thought, I needed to do something. Without getting spooky spiritual let me say that the first thing I did was tell the intrusive thoughts to leave me alone and yes, I did it out loud. Why? Because those intrusive thoughts came to me through either the written word or the spoken word, I wasn’t going to drive them out by thought alone. Mental gymnastics means I allow something to go around and around in my head. It doesn’t make me stronger, instead it makes me weaker. Another thing I’ve learned to do is flood my hearing with music. I don’t use head banging music but rather music that is soft, relaxing and has a calming effect. In the end I’m trying to practice what Jesus said, “Resist the devil and he will flee.” It doesn’t take long for those thoughts to leave. Think about it.

Motor Vehicle Accident In Smethport
On January 20 at 7:28 am, Smethport Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to 109 E. Water St. for a motor vehicle accident.
Snowmobile Crash on Rails To Trails Near Rt. 120 in Elk County
On January 20 at 3:55 am, Emporium Fire and Ambulance were dispatched to a snowmobile accident. The teenage male operator crashed the snowmobile head-on into a crossing and fell down a 20-foot embankment near Rt.120. The operator has a head injury. St. Marys is setting up a landing zone. Elkland Search and Rescue has been dispatched to the scene to assist. Air Medical has been dispatched. The boy was flown to a trauma center.

On January 20 at 1:13 am, Bradford City Ambulance was dispatched to evaluate a victim of a motor vehicle accident on Rt 219 North, North of Owens Way.
Karen L. (Smith) Chiodo, 65, of Warren, PA
Karen L. (Smith) Chiodo, 65, of Warren, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in her home. Born in Warren, PA on July 21, 1958, the daughter of the late Thomas Smith and Donna Smith and she survives.
Karen was a beautician, and worked at many places through the Warren area, including the Tanning Hut. She enjoyed the beach, especially Myrtle Beach, and looked forward to the yearly trips with her husband and family. Karen also enjoyed her time spent with her family and friends and enjoyed that time around the holidays. She was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church, Warren, PA.
Karen was married on September 11, 1982, in Grace United Methodist Church to Louis (Lou) Chiodo, they spent 40 years together before he passed on July 25, 2022.
Mary Margaret “Peg” Olson,
Mary Margaret “Peg” Olson, died peacefully at her loving daughter’s residence on Thursday, January 18, 2024. Peg was born in Erie, PA., to the late John and Gertrude Ward Hall. She was a graduate of Edinboro High School and Hamot Hospital School of Nursing. In March of 1956, she married Ronald Olson who preceded her in death.
Connor Elise McCULLOUGH, 23, of Wellsville, NY
Connor Elise McCULLOUGH, 23, of Wellsville, NY, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2024 surrounded by her family and friends in Jones Memorial Hospital.
Born July 6, 2000, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Mark McCullough and Tawny Steadman. Connor was a 2018 graduate of Wellsville Central School.
Connor was a miracle baby. The culmination of a long-awaited dream. The reality of her was more than we could have hoped for. She was a fierce and loyal friend with a huge heart that never faltered. Connor found beauty in the simplest of things. Photography, painting, coloring, and rock collecting were artistic pursuits that spoke deeply to her.
Mostly, she found beauty in those whom she loved. She was a quiet, sensitive soul, wise beyond her years – with a mischievous side. She always tried to make others laugh and be happy. She was the joy of our lives.
