Think About It
Family
by
Pastor B.J. Knefley
One of the marvels of technology is that you can work while you travel. Today, my wife is driving for a few hours while I work on some things that need my attention. Like others, we are traveling home from the Thanksgiving holiday. We had the opportunity to spend this Thanksgiving with our oldest daughter and her family. Part of our tradition is to go out shopping on Black Friday. This means getting up at 4am so that we can be at the first store by 5am. I drove and my daughter navigated as we went from store to store looking for the bargains that she had picked out earlier.
It’s a peaceful day, and it is snowing lightly. We’ve just passed an area where one could clearly make out the cuttings of beaver, as there were at least eight trees down from their work. I have the luxury of quiet reflection of the past few days since I don’t have to drive yet. One of my grandsons got a welder which he promptly put to use to build a wagon to later pull behind his four-wheeler. It was funny to watch as he and his friend worked for several hours cutting and welding scrap pieces of steel together to make a 4 X 4 wagon. Of course when he got it completed he had to show it off to everyone in his family. Then he loaded it into the back of a pickup to bring it over to his friend’s house to show it to his father.
It saddens me to know that there are many who, although they have a family, are today alone and have no one to share their memories with. This morning as I was preparing to leave, my son-in-law was also preparing to leave for a week long business trip. One of his sons, thinking that he would be leaving very early in the morning, left a note for his father. Another went with him to prepare his truck for departure. I realized in this that part of being a family takes effort. It doesn’t just happen. Maybe that’s the reason that some don’t have family, they’re not willing to invest the time that it takes to be a family. Jesus said that we were to love our neighbors as ourselves, (Mt 22:39), and I guess that includes our family members too. So I guess being a family takes a lot of work. Are you willing to make the investment? Think about it.

Roderick G. “Rod” KINLEY, 91, of Coudersport, PA
Roderick G. “Rod” KINLEY, of Coudersport, PA, died peacefully on Thursday, December 14, 2023, with his loving and devoted wife of more than 70 years, Faye, by his side. Recently, Rod had expressed that when the time comes, “I wish only that it just be myself alone with my darling Faye.”
At 91 years of age, Rod frequently pointed out with pride that, “I am the oldest any one of my family has ever made it to.” Born November 13, 1932, in York, as the eldest child to Edgar C. and Mildred E. Write-in campaign for Potter County commissioner means Republicans will hold all three seats
WPSU | By Anne Danahy
In general, the boards of county commissioners in Pennsylvania are bipartisan — they typically have at least one Republican and one Democrat. But in Potter County, a successful write-in campaign this year means Republicans will hold all three seats.
Robert Rossman lost his bid for county commissioner in the 2023 Republican primary — by 11 votes.
But as Rossman notes, the county leans very Republican.
“Looking back at previous elections, the numbers were there to accomplish this,” he said.
So, Rossman waged a write-in campaign in the November General Election — and won. While the campaign and outcome may be unusual, it is not unheard of.

PERMITS REMAIN FOR NEW CWD DMAP UNIT
Deer hunting isn’t over yet; the after-Christmas seasons await.
And in the newly created Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) unit spanning more than 140,000 acres in Dauphin, Northumberland and Schuylkill counties, hunters have even more time and additional opportunities.
You could be one of them.
Each hunter can purchase up to two permits to hunt in DMAP Unit 6396, and more than 3,500 permits remained available this week.
Within this unit, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has extended the late archery and flintlock muzzleloader deer seasons and will hold an extended firearms season for antlerless deer, as well.
These after-Christmas seasons all will run from Dec. 26, 2023 to Jan. 27, 2024 within DMAP Unit 6396, as well as in Wildlife Management Units 2B, 5C and 5D. In the rest of the state – including the areas of Wildlife Management Units 4C and 4E outside of DMAP Unit 6396 – there is no extended firearms deer season, and the late archery and flintlock deer seasons run from Dec. 26, 2023 to Jan. 15, 2024.
