On November 9 at 10:30 pm Mansfield and Blossburg Fire Depts. were dispatched for a barn fire on Hemlock Hill Rd. in Sullivan Twp. The fire might be out. This was reported by a passerby. After extensive investigation, no fires were found in the area reported.

Fill it and bring it to the chamber to be entered in the drawing. You may fill more than one paper. “Studies show money spent at local businesses stays in the local community. It allows businesses to hire employees, or make donations to community causes,” says Cameron County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tina Solak. Instead of just one day of shopping locally, the chamber wanted to encourage people to shop locally for the entire week and tally the money that stays in Cameron County.

Businesses and organizations in Cameron County preparing for the holiday season. The season begins with the arrival of the Christmas tree in the town square. The tree has been donated by the Rex White family on their property in Clear Creek. Smoker Logging will cut and transport the tree on November 18.

The tickets can be purchased now at $5.00 each and the fundraiser benefits the fireworks in July. The month of December kicks off with the tree lighting and parade on Friday night December 1 in downtown Emporium. The parade steps off on East Fourth Street at 7 pm. The highlight is the arrival of Santa who will then throw the switch to light the tree. The Christmas Benefit committee will have basket tickets available at the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department starting at 4 pm.
Saturday morning Santa arrives with his reindeer. The reindeer will relax on East Fourth Street among the vendors while Santa enjoys breakfast at the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department with the children from 9 am to 11 am. The cost is $5.00 for everyone and children under the age of 5 will eat free. It benefits the fire auxiliary. Santa will then travel to A Christmas Time which is hosted by Sarah Daley at her studio at 5 East Fourth Street.
Families and teens can pick up the L&M Lumber selfie scavenger hunt list. There are 20 items to find at decorated homes or businesses. Downtown Emporium vendors will sell items from 9 am – 1 pm. The CCHS Quarterback Club will have its basket drawing at 1 pm and the winners of the C&N Bank Shop Small punch card will be announced at 2 pm. The Cameron County VFW will host the Christmas Community Dance at 8 pm where the winners of the baskets will be announced.
A Christmas Time will continue to host events during the month of December. Santa will be greeting children and accepting their letters on Saturday 9 and 16 from 10 am – 1 pm. On Sunday December 10, family pets are invited to visit with the jolly elf from 2 pm – 3 pm. A photographer will be on hand and the price is $10.00 Events conclude at A Christmas Time on Sunday December 17. Santa and his favorite elf will read stories while the children enjoy cocoa and cookies from 2 pm – 3 pm. A Christmas Time will be available for holiday gatherings throughout the month.
The selfie Christmas scavenger hunt continues throughout the month of December. Participants are to share the pictures on the Facebook group Christmas in Cameron County. A random drawing will take place on New Years Day with prizes sponsored by L&M Lumber.

The Women’s Giving Circle of McKean County (WGC) granted a total of $7,400 to five nonprofit organizations at their annual business meeting on November 2nd held at the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center in Bradford. Branden David “B” LAMPMAN, 36, of Harrison Valley, PA, died Friday, November 3, 2023.
Born June 11, 1987, in Wellsville, NY, he was the son of Steven L. Lampman and Stacey Clark Lampman Van Treese.
Branden was employed in the construction industry for several years and most recently by Osmose Utility Services.
Branden was interested in music, history, horror movies, and sports, particularly softball and golf. Loyal, kind, patient, loving, generous, he would drop everything to help someone in need.
Lorraine Wagner McMackin, of 640 Vine Road, St. Marys, PA passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 7, 2023, surrounded by her family at the age of 97, just shy of her 98th birthday.
Lorraine was born here in St. Mary’s on December 23, 1925. Her parents were the late George and Marcella Hanes Wagner. Lorraine spent her early years with her nine siblings in a home full of humor and love.
Lorraine was a graduate of St. Marys High School, Class of 1943. Lorraine also was a member of the Hi-Jinx Club in high school. These girls remained lifelong friends and met for monthly luncheons in their golden years. After high school Lorraine went to work at Sylvania, where she eventually met Michael “Mickey” McMackin (a moment she described as “like magic.”) They wed on June 5, 1948.
Vonnie S. Schimp, 74, of Bradford, PA passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her family.
Born on April 21, 1949, in Bradford, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth E. and Virginia (Eschrich) Sprester.
Vonnie attended M. J. Ryan School and graduated from Bradford Area High School in 1967.
On August 5, 1967, in the Lafayette Evangelical Church, she married Gerald G. “Jerry” Schimp who survives.

Not all defining moments are happy ones or easy ones, such as the loss of a cherished relationship or loved one. But we persevere through the hard times with help from our friends, family and faith.
Our nation has also experienced many defining moments, some good, some bad and some extraordinarily tragic. But our nation too has persevered through the hard times, thanks to the service and sacrifice of our veterans who, throughout our history, have accepted it as their duty to protect our country and our citizens at all costs.
From the very beginning of the United States of America, our Founding Fathers knew there was a better way. They determined it was possible to live in freedom and created founding documents that would ensure our freedoms would be protected from generation to generation.
Proposed Settlement Involves 2020 Over-Pressure Incident in Indiana County that Damaged Home Appliances and Other Equipment
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today moved to seek additional specific financial information related to a proposed settlement concerning events that resulted in the over-pressurization of the Peoples Natural Gas distribution system serving the community of Robinson, in Indiana County that caused a wide range of damage to utility and customer equipment.
The Commission voted 5-0 to adopt a motion from PUC Vice Chair Kimberly Barrow to seek supplemental information from Peoples Natural Gas and the PUC’s independent Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement (I&E) – clearly and publicly detailing the cost of replacing private property that was damaged during this incident, as well as explaining how those costs will be addressed – before the Commission takes public comment on the merits of the settlement.

Olean, NY – A graduation ceremony was held on October 21 in honor of Kuldesh Ubhi, MD, and Afza Safeer, MD, two resident physicians completing the University of Buffalo’s rural 1-2 track family medicine residency program. Both residents will complete the program on November 15.
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a two-year roadway project continues on Interstate 180 eastbound and westbound in Montoursville Borough, and Loyalsock, Fairfield, and Muncy townships in Lycoming County.
On Tuesday, November 14, 2023 and Wednesday, November 15, 2023, the contractor will be removing the lighting/poles from both structures carrying Interstate 180 over Loyalsock Creek. The lighting will be upgraded in a future project. Motorists can expect the right (driving) lane to be restricted where work is being performed. Work will be performed between the hours of 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
HARRISBURG – House Republicans have been fighting to safeguard government information and prevent any disruption in the vital roles that government plays in Pennsylvania communities. House Bill 573 would require annual reports submitted to the governor contain an assessment of any potential weaknesses or risks that may exist within an administrative department.
Recently, the House approved an amendment authored by Rep. Rob Mercuri (R-Allegheny) strengthening protections to avoid information technology (IT) threats to state agencies.
More specifically, the amendment to House Bill 573 would require state agencies to review IT applications and services owned by foreign companies with close relationships to foreign countries.
“At the present time, there is a substantial risk that negative actors will have the ability to infiltrate our agencies,” said Mercuri. “The amendment is essential to House Bill 573 and the risk assessment. This is an important step forward in preparing our state government for future emergencies. I am pleased my House colleagues voted unanimously to approve my amendment.”
The bill is now awaiting action by the House Appropriations Committee.

The Coudersport Varsity Club is sponsoring a holiday clothing drive. The varsity club consists of those student-athletes who have earned a varsity letter while participating as a member of a Coudersport athletic team. The club helps pay for letter jackets as well as supporting other school activities. One of the ways that the club raises funds is by operating the popcorn stand at all home volleyball, wrestling, and basketball games.
Due largely to the increased cost of letter jackets the club decided at its September meeting to sponsor a Coudersport Athletic clothing drive. This drive is unique because the products that are being sold promote all of the school’s athletic teams, not any one specific team.
Hopefully, community members will find this helpful when shopping for Christmas items that can be worn to all school events!!!! All items ordered as part of this drive will be delivered directly to the purchaser’s home and are paid for directly online. 15% of everything that is sold as part of this drive will go directly to the Coudersport Varsity Club.
In order to have the items delivered by Christmas the online store is only available thru Monday, November 13th.

Sara Dinani Connelly, 49, of Bradford, PA passed away on November 7, 2023 at the Olean General Hospital.
She was born on September 7, 1974 in Bradford, the daughter of the late Suzanne Cattoni Ferro.
Sara graduated from Bradford Central Christian High School in 1992 and then received her LPN from the Upper Cape Cod Technical School in 2018; she then worked in Massachusetts.
Yesterday at 9:40 am, Box 3-3 was dispatched for a house on fire in the 1800 block of Rock Run Road. Chief 320 arrived on scene, reported a single-story residence that was fully involved, and requested a second alarm due to failed units and low daytime staffing. Engine 3 arrived and stretched several hose lines for defensive operations. Star Hose Company was assisted by several mutual aid companies. Units were on scene for approximately two hours before returning to service.
On November 7th, 2023 at approximately 7:13PM, following a domestic dispute, Cuba Police arrested Dakota R. Steiner (34) of Cuba. Steiner was arrested on charges of assault 3rd (Misdemeanor). Steiner was processed and issued an appearance ticket to appear at a later date. Steiner is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Christopher J. “Chris” Confer, 53, of Erie, PA passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital, Erie.
He was born on October 31, 1970 in Bradford, a son of Peggy A. Yeager Confer and the late Ronald Confer.
He was a graduate of the former Tech Memorial High School, Erie.
He was employed by Five Star International, Erie, for the past twenty-six years.
This Sunday, Nov. 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, the Nessmuk Rod and Gun Club is hosting its second running deer shoot at the club’s outdoor range at 4646 Route 287, 6.5 miles south of Wellsboro in Delmar Township. Club members and the public are invited to participate. The third and last shoot will be on Sunday, Nov. 19.
The shooter with the highest score in the last round this Sunday will win a frozen turkey.
If enough young people, 17 and under participate, a special round for youth will be held during this running deer shoot. The youth with the highest score will win a gift certificate from Cooper’s Sporting Goods in Mansfield or from Barbers Sporting Goods Store in Sabinsville.
The running deer paper target is fixed to a four-foot by three-foot wooden frame that is mounted on wheels on a cable. The target is pulled along the cable from left to right at 100 yards from the shooting area.
Only one shooter is allowed to be on the range per pass. Safety gear and eye and ear protection are required to participate. A sign-up will be held before each round of shooters.
The fee for youth 17 and under, and for adults, 18 and older, is $2 per pass with a limit of two shots per pass. The fee will be split with 50 percent going to the shooter with the highest score per round and the other 50 percent to the club.
