October 11, 2023 — Community leaders, groups, business owners, county commissioners, and state legislators joined the PA Route 6 Alliance in Corry on October 5th – 6th to participate in the organization’s 2023 Educational Workshop and Annual Meeting & “Do 6” Awards presentation.
Ronald E. Thompson, 79, of 73 Rutherford Run, Bradford, passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at UPMC Williamsport.
Ronald was born in Wellsville, NY on January 30, 1944, he was a son of the late Howard E. and Marjorie “Marge” J (Cook) Thompson. He was a 1962 graduate of Bradford Area High School, and a graduate of Williamsport Technical Institute, with a degree in Drafting.
On June 29, 1963, in West Branch Evangelical United Brethren Church, he married Gail Ann (Smith) Thompson who survives.
Ron was formerly employed at Witco Kendall and retired from Pitt Corning in Port Allegany.
He was a member of the Bradford Union Lodge 749 F&AM, the Coudersport Consistory, and loved to build things and was a jack of all trades.
Amanda Wehler, RN, third quarter Nightingale Award recipient at UAHS.
Upper Allegheny Health System (UAHS), parent company of Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and Olean General Hospital (OGH), presented Amanda Wehler, RN, the third quarter Nightingale Award for the healthcare system. Wehler is a nurse in the inpatient acute care at BRMC, where she started in 2016.
Doris Wescott Toronski, age 99, died Friday, October 13, 2023, at Pinecrest Manor.
She was born December 5, 1923. On May 2, 1946 in St. Agnes Episcopal Church, she married Arthur H. Toronski who preceded her in death on April 6, 1995.
She was a lifelong Episcopalian and a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Ridgway. She graduated from St. Marys Public High School in 1941.
Donald R. Pistner, N3ELI, 86, of East Main Street, Bradford, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023, at UPMC Hamot Medical Center.
Born May 11, 1937, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Frances L. (Olewinski) and Bernard J. Pistner, Sr. He was a 1956 graduate of Bradford High School.
He joined the United States Air Force on July 3, 1956, he achieved the rank of Airman Second Class. He was honorably discharged July 2, 1960.
On May 19, 1973, in Salamanca NY, he married Sandra L. (Coffey) Pistner, who survives.
Don worked for RCA Corp., Ventron Electronics. In 1973 he went to work for Dresser-Rand in Olean, NY and retired in 2002.
Don, N3ELI, was a member of St. Bernard Church, the McKean County Amateur Radio Club where he was the Trustee of the Clubs Call W3VV for over 30 years. He was also a member of the Kane Amateur Radio Operators Club.
Kevin M. Wyman, 70, of Bradford, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at UPMC Hamot, in Erie.
Born January 21, 1953, in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Peggy (De Graff) Wyman.
Kevin was a 1971 graduate of Clarence High School in Clarence NY.
On July 23, 1976, at St. Bernard Church, he married Rosanne (Peroginelli) Wyman, who survives him along with his two children.
Kevin moved to Bradford after graduation and began working at Gallenkamp’s Shoe Store, where he met his future wife, Rosanne. He later worked at Bovairds and Glendorn, working in maintenance and later he worked security at Bradford Hospital. In retirement he worked part-time at Worth W. Smith.
Kevin enjoyed deer hunting and being outdoors, with an avid love of Harley motorcycles. He was a great provider to his family and will be remembered as a loving and dedicated grandfather to his three granddaughters.
On Wednesday Oct, 11 at 9:24 am Station 15 was dispatched to assist Station 11 with a motor vehicle crash with entrapment. A difficult extrication was a team effort of DCVFD, BTVFD, BCFD, and Donovans Towing. Rescue personnel were on scene for over 2.5 hours.
On Wednesday morning at 0913hrs DCVFD-11 was dispatched to Red Rock Hill for a single vehicle MVA w/ entrapment. Squad 11, Rescue 11 and Utility 11 responded along with BCFD Paramedic Ambulance.
Upon 1st Units arrival, personnel confirmed a single vehicle in a ditch with one patient heavily entrapped. Chief 1130 (Yohe) established “Red Rock “ Command and requested Rescue and Manpower from Station 15 (Bradford Township) along with Station 9 (Otto Twp) to assist with traffic control to close the road down.
Limestone NY VFD was also dispatched to set up a Landing zone at the Foster Township Community Park for air medical.
Chief 1120 (Scrivo) and Lieutenant 1140 (Moshier) held Rescue Operations and personnel from both departments were able to stabilize the vehicle and provide extrication.
Due to the complexity of the incident, multiple rescue tools and equipment were utilized by both Station 11 and Station 15 to complete the lengthy extrication of the injured driver.
The driver was taken to the LZ by Bradford City Ambulance and then transported to an out-of-area Trauma Center.
DCVFD-11 was also assisted by FTPD, PennDot, Donovan’s Towing and FT roadcrew. DCVFD would like to thank all those that assisted with the extrication, provided traffic control and those that held standby throughout the incident. 12 Members from DCVFD-11 responded and all units and equipment were back in quarters at 1157hrs.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ruth Ann Girlando (née Matteson) passed peacefully at Kobacker House on October 6.
She was born to Anabelle and Horace Newton (“Newt”) Matteson of Long Island, New York, in 1938, the summer of the Great New England Hurricane, later known as the Long Island Express. Ruth attended Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, graduating in 1960. In 1962, she moved to Columbus and worked as a medical secretary, retiring in 1990.
Kevin Allen Kohn, 67, of Port Allegany, PA, a former longtime resident of Smethport, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport after a long illness.
Funeral arrangements, entrusted to the care of Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, are incomplete and will be announced with a full obituary.
