CRCF Community Fund Grant Applications Due October 15th
CRCF Community Fund OLEAN, N.Y., August 21, 2023 — Applications for the next cycle of grant funding from the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation’s Community Fund are due October 15.
The Community Fund makes possible unrestricted, responsive grantmaking to support projects and initiatives led by nonprofit organizations that impact the changing needs of Cattaraugus County residents.
Applicants must be 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations or a government entity or school district.

There are no competitive categories in the triathlon or 5K. Every finisher will receive a medallion.

Members of the Canyon Pilots Association and Canyon Country Ultraight Club will be serving up eggs, pancakes and ham during the Labor Day Weekend All-You-Can-Eat Fly-In Breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon next Sunday, Sept. 3 indoors at the corporate hangar at the Grand Canyon Regional Airport in Delmar Township at 112 Runway Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901.

At 6 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 25, the free outdoor summer concert series will feature Houston Baker and six musicians on the outdoor stage located on the Central Avenue side of the Deane Center for the Performing Arts building at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro. Donations are always appreciated.
This concert will be moved into the Coolidge Theatre if it rains.

Johnsonburg, Pa.: Tuesday, August 29, is the last date to register for Rolfe Beagle Club’s 10th annual Statewide Coyote and Crow Hunt. The hunt is scheduled for ten (10) days from Wednesday, August 30, thru Saturday, September 9. Your registration must be received or postmarked on Tuesday, August 29, if you plan on hunting.
All registrations must be received at the Rolfe Beagle Club, 1016 Long Level Road, Johnsonburg, PA 15845. Registration must include a phone number or an email. Questions may be addressed to wlhab9@gmail.com.

COMMONWELL is a new sci-fi novel set 800 years after Mars blacks out power on Earth. The Founders send back an operative, she discovers a small-scale civilization flourishes among the survivors, the Amish and Seneca. Everything the AIs told her was a lie.
James H. DAY, 61, of Andover, NY
James H. DAY, 61, of Andover, NY, died Saturday, August 19, 2023 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville.
Born February 7, 1962, in North Hornell, he was the son of C. Harold and Janice L. Baldwin Day. On May 9, 1987, he married the former Barbara Jean Bryan, who predeceased him on January 25, 2022.
Jim attended Andover High School. He was employed by Skibeck Pipeline Construction, Wilkins RV, and L.C. Whitford as yard manager.

Kevin L. BABB, 50, of Bolivar, NY, formerly of Hinsdale, died Sunday, August 20, 2023 in his home.
Born January 24, 1973, in Olean, he was the son of Malcom Davison and Karen Allen. On July 16, 2022, in Bolivar, he married the former Jessica L. Button, who survives.
He attended Hinsdale Central School and was employed by Southeastern Transmission in Olean for over 20 years and Supreme Auto Parts in Olean.
Raymond F. “Ray” Kreckel, 70, of 613 Third Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA
Raymond F. “Ray” Kreckel, 70, of 613 Third Avenue, Johnsonburg, PA passed away early Saturday morning, August 19, 2023 at his home following an illness of the past year. He was born in Johnsonburg on July 8, 1953, a son to the late Edward and Virginia Williams Kreckel. On October 28, 1983 in St. Marys, he married Anna Nortum and she survives.
Ray was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg and was a 1971 graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School. Ray was a homebody who loved animals, especially his cat Misty, cooking and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In 2005, Ray retired from Weyerhaeuser, Johnsonburg Mill after 33 years of service. He then retired from AccuGrind in 2016 after 11 years of service.
Laurel Health Celebrates 50 Years of Building Healthier Communities
BLOSSBURG, PA – The Laurel Health Centers kicked off National Health Center Week with their 50th anniversary celebration, held in Blossburg, PA where Laurel Health opened its very first clinic back in 1973.
Employees and their families gathered together at Bloss Island Park to enjoy a catered picnic and a host of fun outdoor activities, including tie-dying a commemorative 50th anniversary shirt, games, competitions, swimming, and raffle prize drawings. Laurel Health has been celebrating all year long with health and wellness screenings at community events like the senior expo, children’s health fair, local festivals, and county fairs with another community celebration planned for the Blossburg VIBE fall festival in October.

PFBC NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE CLEAN VESSEL ACT GRANT PROGRAM
HARRISBURG, PA (August 18) – The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is excited to announce the availability of funding through the Clean Vessel Act (CVA) grant program.
This is a federal grant program administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that funds the construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance of pumpout stations and waste reception facilities for recreational boats. The PFBC has received funding under the CVA grant program and is looking for interested partners to utilize these funds.
Ecker to Introduce Legislation Regulating Child Influencers
HARRISBURG – Rep. Torren Ecker (R-Adams/Cumberland) announced Thursday he will be introducing legislation to regulate social media child influencers and celebrities under Pennsylvania’s Child Labor Law.
“We always hear about the devastating later-life impact that childhood celebrity and wealth can have on those who experience fame early in life. Now, every parent or relative with a cellphone can work to make their children or relatives into social media celebrities that, without their consent, can deprive children of privacy, income from their work, and fair working conditions within the scope of current law,” Ecker said. “As someone with an active social media presence and young children, I know there is a fine line between appropriate inclusion of young children on social media platforms and exploitation.”

On Friday, Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Deane Center’s Coolidge Theatre at 104 Main Street in Wellsboro, the 75th season of the Wellsboro Community Concert Association will open with a concert presented by Rory Block, the best acoustic blues artist performing today.

The Tioga County Women’s Shooting Society is meeting from 5 p.m. until dusk next Thursday, Aug. 24 at the Hillside Rod and Gun Club’s pistol range, weather permitting.
“Women interested in joining our organization and attending the Aug. 24 meeting can call me for directions to the Hillside Rod and Gun Club in Blossburg. I will give them directions to the club and the pistol range, which is just a few tenths of a mile further down the road,” said Marilyn Jones, president.
“Our six-month outdoor season at the Hillside Rod and Gun Club’s pistol range will end in October. Our last two meetings at the pistol range will be from 5 p.m. until dusk on Thursday, Sept. 28 and from 4 p.m. until dusk on Thursday, Oct. 26, weather permitting,” Jones said. Members and guests are required to sign one hold harmless waiver for the outdoor season and pay a $10 range fee each time they attend a practice.

The first regular rehearsal for both choirs is at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the First Presbyterian Church at 130 Main Street in Wellsboro. Choir Too will rehearse until 5 p.m. and the HG Treble Choir until 5:30 p.m.

Judson R. Duell, II, 82, of Knotts Island, NC, formerly of Coudersport, PA
Judson R. Duell, II, 82, of Knotts Island, NC, formerly of Coudersport, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 16, 2023. He was a wise and generous man, a caring father and grandfather, and the most devoted and loving husband.
Judson was born on December 18,1940, in Coudersport, PA, and was the son of Judson and Mary Elizabeth (Sallade) Duell. Judson graduated from Coudersport High School in June 1958 and enlisted in the army one month later, with him beginning his first overseas tour in March 1959. He met the love of his life while in Germany, and they were married September 9, 1960.
