(SMETHPORT, Pennsylvania, July 20, 2023): District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that former Bradford and Port Allegany man Aaron DAVIS – convicted in January of 84 counts including Unlawful Contact with a Minor, Obscene Materials to a Minor, and Child Pornography – was sentenced to a period of state incarceration of 75 years to 150 years during a sentencing hearing today at the McKean County Courthouse.

Carol J. Wenzel, 77, of Coudersport, formerly of Warren, PA passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport, after a short illness.

Donald E. CHAPMAN, 96, of Mills, PA, died Tuesday, July 18, 2023 in his home.
Born May 25, 1927, in Belvidere, NY, he was the son of Anson Daniel and Margaret Hile Chapman. On December 24, 1950, in West Bingham, he married the former Norma L. Patterson, who predeceased him on December 24, 2020.
A World War II Veteran, he served honorably with the U.S. Navy from July 31, 1944 – February 9, 1950 in the Pacific Theatre.
He was employed by Penelec for 33 years, retiring in 1987.
Don was a life member of Carl E. Hyde American Legion Post #963 in Ulysses and Howard S. Lines VFW Post #6753 in Knoxville.
Kevin J. Crowley, 28, of Nichols Run Road, Limestone, NY passed away Monday, July 17, 2023, in Pittsburgh.
Born September 20, 1994, in Bradford, he was a son of Joseph F. and DiAnne M. (Greek) Crowley.
Kevin was a 2013 graduate of Allegany-Limestone High School, and received his certification in Media-Entertainment from BOCES.
He formerly worked at Cutco, and Holiday Valley Ski Resort as a lift operator.
Kevin loved his family, and friends, but most of all his son Patrick.
He enjoyed being outside and doing things with his hands like woodworking, welding, bike riding, skateboarding, living off the land, and spending time with his Dalmation “Pongo”. He loved trains and rode them whenever he could. He was a free spirit that loved life on his own terms.
Surviving are his parents, Joe and DiAnne Crowley, one son, Patrick Woodarek, Patrick’s mother Jaimie Woodarek, one brother, Kyle (Danelle) Crowley, two nephews, Karson and Landon Crowley, his grandmother, Janet Crowley, two aunts, Harriett Pritchard, Lynn (Tony) Height, two uncles, Tom (Marilyn) Greek, and Mike (Holly) Crowley, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James Crowley, and his maternal grandparents, Harry L. and Margaret Greek.
Family will receive friends on Sunday August 27, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Limestone Community Center. At 3:00 pm funeral services will be held with Rev. Eric Kessell, Pastor of the Farmersville Baptist Church, officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc.

SHINGLEHOUSE – Paul R. Whitman passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on July 17th, 2023, at UPMC Cole in Coudersport, PA, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
He was born on April 1st, 1948, to Stanley and Janet (Potter) Whitman in Buffalo, NY. Paul was a graduate of Depew High School in Depew, NY.
Throughout his life, Paul was renowned for his exceptional cooking skills, and he dedicated much of his working career to leading kitchens at various establishments. He had the privilege of working at some of the area’s finest private Country Clubs and numerous other restaurants. Notably, Paul and his wife Linda also embarked on their own culinary journey together, opening and running Paul’s Little Town Blues in Olean, NY.
Leroy J. “Buck” Himes, 88, of St. Marys, PA passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Elk Haven Nursing Home surrounded by his family following a short illness.
He was born on October 19, 1934 in Ridgway, a son of the late Burton and Lillian Wolff Himes.
On May 22, 1954, in Daguscahonda, he married the late Alice “Dixie” Groll Himes, who preceded him in death on April 20, 2018. Together they shared more than 63 years of marriage.

Elizabeth J. “Betty” Seelye, 92, a resident of Pinecrest Manor and formerly of Spruce Street, St. Marys, PA passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at Pinecrest Manor following a lengthy.
She was born April 2, 1931, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Henry and Margaret Grasser Seelye. She was a lifelong resident of St. Marys and attended St. Marys Parochial School and Central Catholic High School.
Betty is survived by four nephews: Paul, Joseph, Timothy, and Peter Struble; nine great-nieces and nephews; four great-great nephews; and several cousins.
Along with her parents, Betty was preceded in death by four sisters: Marion Seelye, Dorothy Struble, Irene Seelye, and Mary in infancy; and one brother, Harold Seelye. Elizabeth will be missed, dearly.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas More Sikora, OSB, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.

Patrick M. Ekas, 71, of Bradford, PA passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 at his home.
He was born on October 20, 1951 in Olean, NY; a son of the late Donald and Aleen Blackmer Ekas.
He was a 1971 graduate of the Bradford Area High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War; serving from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1975.
He was a member of the Open Arms Community Church. He enjoyed camping and fishing and he especially loved spending time with his family.
He was employed by Kessel Construction, Inc. for 32 years until his retirement.
He is survived by one daughter, Carrie (Steven) Barber of Port Allegany; four sisters, Linda (James) LeClair of Georgia, Donna Stuart of Indiana, Barbara (Scott) Boise of Pennsylvania and Susan Goodrich of Florida; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a longtime friend, Donna Ekas of Bradford.
In addition to his parents; he was also preceded in death by two daughters, Jenette Kemick and Jessica Abplanalp and one brother, Arthur Ekas.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, August 26, 2023. The time and location will be announced at a later date.

Olean Patrol Officers arrested 33 year old Christopher T. Sweat of 716 Humberland, Buffalo on the 900 Block of Front St. last night for an outstanding Indictment Warrant.
This Indictment was a result of a Search Warrant previously conducted at 217 King St. by the Street Crimes Unit where Investigators seized Crack Cocaine, Meth, Heroin, A Handgun and several other illegal items.
Sweat was observed at approximately 10:15 p.m. last night and took off running when approached by Police. Sweat was taken into custody and was charged with Criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd. degree with intent to sell after he threw approximately 53 Grams of Crack Cocaine while running. Last night Sweat was also charged with Tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and Obstruction of governmental administration.
The charges on the original Indictment Warrant are, Criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd. degree, Criminal use of drug paraphernalia 2nd degree and Criminal possession of a weapon 3rd. degree. Sweat was held for arraignment.
The Roulette Township Supervisors are holding a special meeting on Monday, July 24, 2023 at 4:15 p.m., at the township office, on 80 Railroad Ave. The sole purpose for this meeting is to address the unpaid bills that we were unable to address at the regular monthly meeting.
Jul 20th, 2023 @ 1:49 PM (SMETHPORT, Pennsylvania: District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer reports that Walter Lee Dennis, referred to in the press as “Ghost,” was sentenced to a period of state incarceration of 8 years to 16 years following his conviction on drug offenses.
DENNIS was convicted following a 2 day jury trial in June. Detectives with the McKean County Drug Task Force testified that, on March 27 and March 28, 2022, DENNIS was intending to deliver narcotics to an individual and they placed him under surveillance. Detectives with the McKean County Drug Task Force as well as Officers with the City of Bradford and Bradford Township maintained surveillance on him.

On July 18, 2023, Troopers out of SP Amity responded to a two vehicle collision on State Route 21 in the town of Alfred.
Investigation determined that a 2013 Chevrolet was traveling north bound and a 2017 Chevrolet was traveling south bound on State Route 21. Both vehicles collided head on.
Operator of the 2017 Chevrolet, Adam J. Vanskiver, 29, of Wellsville, NY treated on scene and transported via LifeNet to Strong memorial hospital with leg injuries.
The operator of the 2013 Chevrolet, Mary N. Dagostino, 62, of Caledonia, NY was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Allegany County Coroner.
The NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to this incident. This is still an ongoing investigation.
Montoursville, PA – Motorists are advised that a two-year roadway project continues on Interstate 180 eastbound and westbound in Montoursville Borough, and Loyalsock, Fairfield, and Muncy townships in Lycoming County.
Week of July 23
The week of Sunday July 23, 2023, through Friday, July 28, 2023, the contractor, Glenn O. Hawbaker, will continue paving between the hours of 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM daily, Sunday through Friday, in the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 180 starting near the westbound bridge over Route 2026 (Brushy Ridge Road) and continue westward to the bridge over Loyalsock Creek and vice versa in the eastbound direction. Paving will be on the shoulder and ramp areas along Interstate 180 and at on- and off-ramps at Route 87 and Route 2045 (Fairfield Road).
The contractor will also be trenching and installing electrical conduits along the Broad Street on ramp to Interstate 180 westbound. The contractor will be implementing a 67-hour lane closure/detour closing Broad Street to Interstate 180 eastbound on-ramp. This detour will begin Friday, July 21, 2023, at 7:00 PM and continue through Monday, July, 24, 2023 at 2:00 PM, in order to perform epoxy overlay work on the eastbound structure over Loyalsock Creek. The detour will use Broad Street and Loyalsock Avenue and will be identified by signs.
Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, watch for lane changes, and drive with caution through the work zone.
Glenn O. Hawbaker is the prime contractor for this $11.4 million highway resurfacing project. Work on this project includes mill and resurface of over 13 miles of roadway including entrance and exit ramps at Route 87 and the Fairfield Road interchanges, new lighting, guide rail upgrades, drainage, signage, and pavement markings. Additional work the removal and re-epoxy of 16 bridges throughout the project. These bridges span the Loyalsock Creek, Route 87, Fairfield Road, Route 220, Carpenter’s Run, Brushy Ridge Road, Wolf Run, and Muncy Creek. Work on this project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024, with a winter shutdown in 2023.
At 1:00 PM on Thursday, Derrick City Fire Dept. & City ambulance have been dispatched to Derrick Road for a vehicle crash with power lines down on the vehicle with an occupant trapped inside. Many conflicting reports to 911.
Responder on scene now reporting no vehicle involved, just lines down.

Vendors will set up along the paths that meander through the beautiful memorial Arboretum displaying a variety of flowers, trees and bushes on the historic C&PA railroad grounds. Stroll along the Honor Walk bricks inscribed in memory or tribute to loved ones and visit the Veteran’s Honor Wall while visiting vendor’s tables.
There are plenty of memorial benches throughout the Arboretum to relax and enjoy the day. Sign up for door prizes and lunch is sponsored by Rep. Martin Causer.
Potter County Human Services Area Agency on Aging will have a table set-up with information pertaining to their services. Farm Market Nutrition Program checks, Ombudsman Program and Senior Center information will also be available.
