Holiday giving tree program is back at the BRMC Pavilion
Bradford, PA – This year, the Pavilion will host its annual giving tree to bring some Christmas cheer to the residents at the Pavilion. Each tag on the giving tree will have a number and gender which represents a resident at the Pavilion. The tree and tags are located in the front lobby of Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC). The program is open to anyone in the community wishing to take part in this event.
After acquiring a tag from the giving tree, participants can obtain a gift. All gifts are requested to be wrapped and returned to the activities room on the first floor of the Pavilion by Monday, December 19.
“The annual giving tree is a great Christmas tradition that we hold each year for the Pavilion,” said Dave Monroe, chief administrative officer, BRMC. “Our employees get very involved with the event every year and it’s also an amazing way for the community to give back to our residents and spread some Christmas cheer.”
The Pavilion is the five-star rated facility, by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, located at BRMC. The facility specializes in skilled nursing care for both short-term rehabilitation or long-term care. Referrals can be made by calling (814) 362-8293.

Joseph – individually and doing business as Joseph Contracting, John Joseph Contracting, and Perry Stone Supply LLC – to settle violations of the Solid Waste Management Act and Pennsylvania regulations that occurred between 2012 and 2015 in Dunbar, Perry, and South Union Townships, Fayette County.
Helen J. Herzing, 93, a resident of Silver Creek Terrace and formerly of S. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, PA
Helen J. Herzing, 93, a resident of Silver Creek Terrace and formerly of S. St. Marys Street, St. Marys, PA passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022 with her children by her side.
She was born on July 8, 1929 in St. Marys, PA, a daughter of the late Rocco and Elvira DeSantis Petrilli.
On May 30, 1953, in Sacred Heart Church, she married the late Thomas G. Herzing, who preceded her in death on November 2, 2017. Together they were blessed with more than 64 years of marriage.
Helen was a lifelong resident of the area and member of Sacred Heart Church. In her earlier years, she worked at Stackpole Carbon and then enjoyed volunteering at the Sacred Heart school cafeteria when her children and grandchildren attended. She always enjoyed sitting down for a game of Skat with her family or working a word search puzzle. She loved being a homemaker, cooking and baking her famous rigatoni and meatballs for dinners with her beloved family. She made the best drop fudge, which was a family staple at the holidays. Each spring, she spent her time gardening and tending to her flowers. Helen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family more than anything. She was the last surviving member of the Petrilli family.
She is survived by 2 children; Diane Scutella and her husband Joe and Thomas Herzing and his wife Colette, both of St. Marys; by her 2 beloved grandchildren; Travis (Mandy) Herzing and Ashley (Tim Buresh) Herzing, as well as by 3 step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings; John Petrilli, Herman Petrilli, Joseph Petrilli, Lena Galati, Angeline Calla, Caroline Hoffman and by one sister in infancy; Connie.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen J. Herzing will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas Curry, OSB, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 9:30-10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Creek Activity Fund or to the St. Marys Boys and Girls Club.

Dusenburys Hold 16th Candlelight Remembrance service
A Candlelight Remembrance service was held by Kevin & Patty Dusenbury, owners of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 5pm.
This year’s service marked the 16th year the Dusenburys have held a Candlelight Remembrance service at the funeral home, which was started in 2007 by the Dusenbury family, inspired by Kevin Dusenbury, Jr. while a student at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
There were 124 luminaries lit, 121 of which were for loved ones served by the Dusenbury family in 2022. Family members were invited to light their loved one’s candle. If they were not able to be present, that candle was still lit in remembrance of that loved one.
Due to the problems during the pandemic, the Dusenburys did not have an in-person service in 2020 or 2021. A candle was lit in remembrance of those that passed away in 2020 and also a candle was lit for those that passed in 2021. An additional candle was lit in memory of all those served during the 100 years the firm has been in existence.
Owner Kevin J. Dusenbury said, “The holidays are very hard on families who have lost loved ones. We host this service to honor and remember these loved ones and their families.”

Edith J. Cortina, 89, a resident of Elk Haven Nursing Home, and formerly of 142 Teaberry Road, St. Marys, PA passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Elk Haven, after a lengthy illness.
She was born June 2, 1933, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Zolferino and Mary Rose Nart Marconi. Edith was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1951. She was a retired cafeteria worker for the St. Marys Area School District and was a caterer for many years.
On August 24, 1957, in the Queen of the World Church, Edith married Silvio D. Cortina, who preceded her in death on March 26, 2017. They shared more than 59 years of marriage.
Edith is survived by two daughters: Kim Cortina and Sharon Moore (Jeff), both of St. Marys; two sons: Michael Cortina (Kathy) and Raymond Cortina (Aimee), both of St. Marys; five grandsons: Alex Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Jake Cortina (Jolene), Ben Cortina, and Anthony Cortina; two step-grandchildren: Kyle Gaton and Kaitlyn Gaton; and by two brothers: Alfred “Corky” Marconi (Marilys) of St. Marys and Andrew “Ike” Marconi of California.
In addition to her husband and parents, Edith was preceded in death by two sisters: Marguerite Schaut and Louise Mattiuz; and by three brothers: Victor, Aurelius, and Charles Marconi.
Edith was a member of the Queen of the World Church, donating much of her time doing sympathy cards for the church. She enjoyed cooking and found great joy babysitting her grandchildren in their younger years.

2023 WINTER OUTINGS SERIES TO START SUNDAY, JAN. 1
The 2023 Step Outdoors Winter Outings Series will begin on New Year’s Day, Sunday Jan. 1 with First Day hikes at three state parks in Tioga and Potter counties, according to organizer Tim Morey, a natural resource specialist with the Hills Creek State Park Complex.
“A total of 27 activities are being offered in Tioga and Potter counties in January, February and March of 2023,” Morey said. “Included are lots of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Several programs combine indoor and outdoor activities and others are offered indoors only,” he said. “The majority of them are free and open to beginners, both adults and children under adult supervision,” Morey added. Pre-registration is required for some of the events.
First Day Hike is Jan. 1 at Sinnemahoning State Park
On Sunday, Jan. 1, rain or shine, start the New Year on the right foot with a free, easy, family-friendly 2.5-mile First Day Guided Hike along fairly level trails. Meet at 10 a.m. at Pavilion 1 in the 40 Maples Day Use Area at Sinnemahoning State Park at 4843 Park Drive in Austin, Potter County. Learn to identify common tree species, see dens and nests, scout for tracks and other animal traces, and enjoy the beauty of First Fork Valley. A limited number of snowshoes wiII be provided if needed. Recommended for adults and children eight and up. Well-behaved dogs on short leashes are welcome. Dress for the weather. Bring water. First Day Hike or Snowshoe & 5K will be at Hills Creek on Jan. 1
Start 2023 on the right foot by participating in the free First Day Guided Hike or 5K at Hills Creek State Park at 111 Spillway Road in Charleston Township, seven miles northeast of Wellsboro in Tioga County. On Sunday, Jan. 1, participants will meet at the park’s beach parking area to participate in either the hike or First Day 5K. Runners should arrive by 12:30 p.m. to register for the 5K and to pick up course information before the 1 p.m. start. The 5K is a free, no cost, no frills event. There are no aid stations and no awards. Runners record their own times. The goal is for 5K participants to challenge themselves on a course that includes a mix of roads and trails around Hills Creek Lake. The short, family oriented, slow-paced guided hike of less than 1.5 miles will be on Tauscher’s Trail. If conditions allow, it will become a guided snowshoe hike. Hikers are encouraged to bring their own snowshoes or traction devices. A limited supply of both will be available to use free. Well-behaved dogs on short leashes are welcome. Hikers will cheer on 5K runners at 1 p.m. and then leave on their own adventure. Come early and stay late. If there is enough snow, families are welcome to bring sleds, tubes or toboggans and give the park’s Sledding Hill a try or cross-country ski, snowshoe or hike on other trails or paved roads in the park. A free, First Day Guided Family Nature Hike will be on Sunday, Jan. 1 at Lyman Run State Park at 454 Lyman Run Road in Galeton, Potter County. Bring cameras. Meet at 1 p.m. at the Lower Campground/Trail Head parking lot to go on this easy walk of less than a mile along the Lower Lyman Trail. Leaders John Halter and Chip Harrison will encourage hikers to search for tracks and other signs of winter animal activity; identify different trees and learn about stream ecology. The hike is suitable for adults and children. Dogs must be on leash and under control at all times. Due to conditions, traction devices may be required and hiking poles are recommended. Marian J. Butler, 76, Broad Acres Nursing home in Wellsboro
Marian J. Butler, 76, died on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Broad Acres Nursing home in Wellsboro. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver P. Butler.
Marian was the daughter of Abe and Christine Brugger of Westfield, and was the youngest of 3 girls. She is survived by her 3 children: Scott and Linda Butler of Ellicottville, NY, Amanda and Christopher Bradley of Dillsburg; and Jason and Coleen Butler of Wellsboro; her two sisters: Velma Malecki of Cleveland, OH and Ester Ansell of Wellsboro; and her 7 grandchildren: Brooke and Bryce Butler; Jake and Sarah Bradley; Case, Cole and Violet Butler.
Marian was a graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School. She received her BS in Home Economics from Penn State University. She married Oliver on August 21, 1965.
Marian was a dairy farmer and owner of Pag-Omar Farms Market. It is her salad recipes that have become the hallmark of the market. Her passion for farming was evident when she became the 1st female board member of the DHIA (Dairy Herd Improvement Association) in Tioga County and then served at the state level as a board member for DHIA. She was the County Auditor for several years, a member of the Red Hat Society and a member of The Canyon Dreamers investment club. She loved to quilt, put together puzzles, do the daily crossword and watch the birds at her feeders. Her family was always in her heart and she was happiest when she was with her family playing board games.
A memorial celebration will be held at the convenience of the family.

BRMS internal medicine and primary care practice moving
Bradford, PA – The Bradford Regional Medical Services (BRMS) internal medicine and primary care practice currently located at the Bradford Health Center will be moving its practice to a new office location. The practice includes Jakub Wojcik, MD, Danielle Gregoire-Lingle, PA-C, and Becky Seefeldt, DNP.
Dr. Jakub Wojcik, Danielle Gregoire-Lingle, PA-C, and Becky Seefeldt, DNP, will begin seeing patients at the new office location starting Tuesday, December 27. The new office location is at the Bradford Medical Arts Building, located at 195 Pleasant Street, Bradford, PA 16701.
Services will be disrupted while the move takes place. Both the old and new office will be closed for in-person visits from December 23 and will reopen at the new location on December 27. Patients will be eligible to be seen for telehealth visits starting December 22 through December 26.
Paul Kirsch, MD, a current physician in the practice will not make the move as he will be leaving the practice to work at the VA in Bradford.
“I would like to thank my patients for giving me the privilege to care for them the past 35 years,” said Dr. Kirsch.

On Monday, the Wildcats grabbed a nine-point, 47-38, halftime lead at King’s College, only to be outscored 66-52 in the second half of a 104-99 nonconference loss that saw their overall record drop to 4-5. The five-point margin was the closest in four games between the two teams since 2014.
For the second time this season, and fourth of his career, Gavin Barrett, of Roselle, New Jersey, recorded a triple-double for Penn College as he finished with 22 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Max Jackowsky, of Garnet Valley, had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Will Sulesky, of Huntingdon, added 19 points, and Obens Luxama, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Nouhamadou Diallo, of Stafford, Virginia, each tallied 13 points, marking the first time since the 2020 season that five Penn College players reached double digits in a game.
