Acting 101: Learn the Fundamentals of Acting
Calling all thespians! So you’ve never acted before but would love to? Come learn the essential skills needed to be on the stage. Even if you are not a novice, this is an excellent opportunity to refresh those skills and maybe learn something new to add to your repertoire, such as improvisation or different techniques. The local theatrical group, Potter-McKean Players, has plans to offer productions in the upcoming months. This course will teach you what you need to be ready for those auditions.
This 4-part course will be taught by local director Paul Herzig and actor Jared Empson, of Eliot Ness Fest fame. The classes will take place on Tuesdays, January 10 – January 31, 2023 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Education Council’s Coudersport office. The cost of the course is $25 per person. Jack E. “Jay” Ferry Jr., 47, of Warren, PA
Jack E. “Jay” Ferry Jr., 47, of Warren, PA, passed away on Sunday December 18, 2022, in his home.
He was born in Warren on October 19, 1975, the son of the late Mary (Magee) Ferry and Jackie E. Ferry Sr., who survives. Jack was a graduate of Warren Area High School. He enjoyed hunting, hiking, fishing, cooking, watching UFC and movies, and spending time with family. Jack was a laborer and worked for Great Lakes in Corry, Pa.
Jack is survived by his father, Jackie E. Ferry Sr.; his wife Carla Ferry, of Youngsville; three children Amber M. Ferry of Warren, PA, Autumn M. Crowe (Devin) of Pittsfield, Pa, and Vanessa Y. Ferry of Warren, Pa.; two grandchildren Bryson Huya and Jayla Ferry, with two more grandchildren to be born in 2023.; two siblings Lorie Whippo (Shelby) of Virginia, and Scott Skidmore (Carrie) of Sheffield; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother; brothers Frank Skidmore, and Kenny Matha; his maternal grandmother Minnie Menard; and his maternal great grandmother Theresa Siliano.
A celebration of Jay’s life will be held on Friday December 23, 2022, at 5:00 pm at the Sheffield VFW, 1 Austin Hill Rd., Sheffield PA 16347.

Marvin V. Hamm, age 76, of Wellsboro, PA
Marvin V. Hamm, age 76, of Wellsboro, PA, died on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
He was born on October 10, 1946 in Tacoma, WA a son of the late Oscar and Esther (Miller) Hamm and was married for 52 years to Sharon L. (Wagner) Hamm.
Marvin was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army.
He retired from Borden, Inc., Wellsboro PA with 39 years of service and then worked for Citizens and Northern Bank, Wellsboro, PA for several more years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was always willing to help others.
Marvin is survived by his wife: Sharon L. Hamm of Wellsboro, PA, daughter: Sarah (Matt) Schmitt of Southborough, MA, brother: Michael (Alice) Hamm of Wellsboro, PA, sister-in-law: Joanne Hamm of Morgan City, LA, brother-in-law: Dave Smith of Wellsboro, PA and 2 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers: Marlin Hamm and Mark Hamm and a sister: Eddie Smith.
A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2023. Interment will be in the Niles Valley Cemetery, Middlebury Center, PA.

Jamie Davidson Moore, 46, of Johnsonburg, PA
On December 16, 2022, Jamie Davidson Moore, 46, of Johnsonburg, PA laid down worldly pain and gained her heavenly wings.
Jamie was born July 13, 1976 in Kane, to Brad Pfendler who survives and the late Nedra Davidson Blauser. On June 2, 2001in Kane, she married John Moore. Jamie and John then made a loving home for 22 years in Johnsonburg.
Jamie was an amazing woman. Through her life she juggled many titles from a mom, mimi, daughter, house wife, working woman, chauffeur to a jump rope team, and the most difficult one of all an amazing wife. Jamie’s door was always open to anyone who just needed to talk. Jamie’s loves were her family, any animal she could convince John to adopt, like her sweet chi chi wa wa cocoa, monkeys, her beloved buffalo bills and all her many friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother Michael Blauser of Florida, a son Christopher Harris of Kane, a daughter Nedra (Cory) Garvey of Ridgway and three grandchildren Madison Garvey, Alexa Garvey, and Elizabeth Garvey all of Ridgway, brothers-in-law Kevin Dinger, Scott (Mary) Dinger and Dale Moore all of Kane, sister-law Tammy (David) Jacobs of Johnsonburg and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jamie was preceded in death by her mother Nedra Blauser, two sisters Jawayne Blauser at the age of 16 and Miranda Blauser in infancy.
Friends will be received at the Cummings Funeral Home on Wednesday (Dec. 21) from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and also on Thursday (Dec. 22) from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dan Reigel officiating.

Firefighters Battle Fire on West Shore Road in Cuba Overnight
On 12/19/2022 Cuba Fire Department responded to a structure fire on West Shore Rd at 18:18. First arriving units found a 2 story structure with smoke showing from the 2nd floor. All residents were out of the structure and unharmed. Several area departments responded including Friendship Fire Department , New Hudson Fire Company ,Clarksville, Rushford Fire Department , Weston Mills Lyndon NY Fire Co. , Cuba Ambulance and Cuba Police Department .and Hinsdale Fire Department for standby crew.

Telephonic Hearings Scheduled on Jan. 19, 2023, to Gather Public Input from National Fuel Gas Customers and Other Concerned Parties
HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today scheduled mid-January telephonic hearings to gather public input on a proposed rate increase by National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation (National Fuel Gas).
National Fuel Gas presently provides natural gas distribution services to approximately 214,000 people in northwest Pennsylvania.

Eve’s Eve service planned on Friday at Open Arms
Open Arms Church will hold its annual Christmas Eve’s Eve services on Friday.
The services will feature music and a message at 6 pm and 8 pm at 1289 E. Main St. in Foster Township, and videos at 6 pm at 105 Smith Avenue, Port Allegany.
“This is a time to join together to remember the birth of our Savior, the Light of the world! We will have a time of worship, celebration and reflection,” said Lead Pastor Zoe Hatcher.

Miriam M. Wehler, 99, of S. Michael Road, St. Marys, PA.
Miriam M. Wehler, 99, of S. Michael Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, December 19, 2022 with her family by her side.
She was born on May 19, 1923 in St. Marys, a daughter of the Joseph E. and Dorothy Gleixner Smith.
On May 9, 1942 in St. Marys Church, she married the late William L. “Willie” Wehler, who preceded her in death on January 7, 2009. Together they were blessed with more than 66 years of love, laughter, and happiness.
Miriam was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1940 and lifelong member of Queen of the World Church. She retired from Thrift Drug after more than 17 years of service. She was a lifelong member of the Rosary Altar Society, St. Anne’s Society, and the C.D. of A., enjoying the friends she met along the way. She loved visiting with friends and classmates at the Golden Grad dinners, and had been honored for more than 80 years as an alumni.
In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling, especially her trip to Tanzania, Africa to visit Sr Marian and Sr Denise who were missionaries.She is survived by 7 children; Sr. Marian “Ginny” Wehler, OSB, of Oil City, Dennis (Mary Lou) Wehler of Kersey, Betsy (Joe) Azzato of Russell, Ed (Sharon) Wehler of St. Marys, Kathy (John) Bloom of Winchester, VA, Janet (Mac) Reed of St. Marys, Steve Wehler of St. Marys; and by her 21 beloved grandchildren; Lisa Mancuso, Billy Wehler, Tammi Eozzo, Debbie Defranco, Joe Azzato Jr, Amy Roberts, Mark Eckert, Chad Eckert, Dr Jill Eckert Stager, Jamie Eckert Schaut, Angela Regulski, Jessie Wehler, Billie Jo Newcamp, Mary Ann Larcade, Jack Bloom, Julie Keenan, Michelle Straub, Casey Smith, Stephanie Davis and Matthew and Maggie Wehler and by 42 great-grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
She is also survived by one sister; Betty Cheatle of St. Marys, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and her husband, Miriam was preceded in death by a daughter; Marilyn Eckert, grandson; Jeff Eckert and great grandson Tyler Mancuso, two brothers; Howard Smith and Willis Smith, and by three sisters; Doris Cheatle, Rita Schutz, and Kathleen Johnston. She was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law; Amelia Wehler and by a sister-in-law; Melie Wehler.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Miriam M. Wehler will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Dennis R. CONNOLLY, 58, of Whitesville, NY
Dennis R. CONNOLLY, 58, of Whitesville, NY, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 in his home.
He was born March 5, 1964, in Wellsville. A 1982 graduate of Whitesville Central School, he served honorably with the U.S. Air Force from 1984 – 2004. Dennis spent most of his military career in the Middle East. While serving, he played on the Air Force softball team. After retiring from the military, he was employed by Alstom in Hornell, worked as a government contractor in Guantanamo Bay, and was last employed by Hines Medical Distribution in Chicago, IL, where he ran the shipping and distribution center. Dennis was an avid Bills and Sabres fan. He loved to bowl, hunt, fish, play pool, cook, and grill. He was a member of Morrison B. Hayes American Legion Post #702, Frank B. Church VFW Post #2530, and Wellsville Moose Lodge #601.
Surviving are: his mother, Sharon (Thomas) Van Etten of Whitesville; three daughters, Emilia (Joseph) Johnson of Warrenville, IL, Carol Zuniga and Mia Connolly, both of Flour Bluff, Corpus Christi, TX; a granddaughter, Valentina Moreno; three sisters, Yvonne (Arthur) Simmons of Whitesville, Amy (Jonathan) Thomas of Bolivar, and Cindy Van Etten of Delmar; nieces and nephews, Marilynn (Joshua) Crummenauer, Marcus (Shelly) Schoen, Kori Thomas, and Jayna Thomas; and his pets he loved, Wrinkles and Ramsey.

Ethel Mildred “Millie” MARGESON, 94, of Scio, NY, died Saturday, December 17, 2022 in Highland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Wellsville.
Born November 9, 1928, in Wellsville, she was the daughter of Donald and Doris Collins Burdick. On May 15, 1949, in Wellsville, she married Howard E. “Tom” Margeson, who predeceased her on October 26, 1970.
A graduate of Wellsville High School, she was employed by Allegany County for 25 years in the Health Department, retiring in 1995. Millie was a member of Grace United Church.
Surviving are: two sons, Thomas (Lonnie) Margeson of Belmont and John (Pam) Margeson of Scio; nine grandchildren, AdreAnn (Daniel) Barnhardt, Thomas R. Margeson, Jaclyn (Michael) Lignos, Peter (Ashley) Margeson, Jeremy (Donna) Slawson, Jeff (Jaime) Slawson, Martin (Brandi) Margeson, Jeffrey (Kari) Margeson, and Joseph (Amanda) Margeson; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Mason (Sally) Burdick of Greenwood; son-in-law, Thomas A. Slawson of Genesee, PA; daughter-in-law, Nancy Walsh of Allegany; nieces and nephews.

Richard C. Platko, 79, of Nookside Lane, Bradford, PA passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022.
Born February 18, 1943 in Bradford, was the son of the late Andrew and Sylvia (Rich) Platko.
Dick was a 1959 graduate of Bradford Area High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree for Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1963.
Richard worked for his parents at the S&A Grocery Store at the corner of N. Bennett and State Street as a young man.
His career started as an elementary school teacher at the 6th Ward School. He went on to teach at the Custer City School and School Street Elementary School retiring in 2001 after 35 years of teaching.
Dick enjoyed taking walks, playing golf, reading, and bowling. He loved to attend his children’s band events.
Surviving are two daughters, Jennifer (Dan) Colligan, of Gallatin, TN, and Lisa (John) Auteri, of Bradford, one son, Richard A. Platko, of Bradford, and one granddaughter, Mersaydes Dillaman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one aunt, Lillian Rich.

Bridget Anne Boyle, 38, of 15 Crookerhouse Lane, Bradford, PA formerly of Raleigh NC, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the family home.
Born May 24, 1984,in Bradford, she was a daughter of Terence E. Boyle, of Bradford, and the late Judith A. (McKee) Boyle.
Bridget was a 2002 graduate of Bradford High School, and a 2008 graduate of the Pittsburgh Veterinarian Institute in Pittsburgh.
After graduating from high school she had been employed at the Dollar General Store and achieved the position of Assistant Manager, In 2008 graduate of the Pittsburgh Veterinarian Institute in Pittsburgh. After graduating she went to Raleigh NC and worked at a Veterinary Clinic.
After the death of her mother she returned to Bradford and worked at the Haskell Valley Veterinary Clinic. She later worked at the Dollar Tree and Phoenix Rehabilitation and Health Services. Most recently she worked at Bradford Pet Stop in Bradford.
Surviving in addition to her father Terence, is one sister, Erin Teresa Seeker, one nephew, Logan Seeker, one niece, Bella Tia Seeker, all of Bradford, two aunts, Mary Ann Heater, of Nazareth, and Kathryn Boyle, of Belvedere, NJ, three uncles, Michael (Maryann) Boyle, of Phillipsburg, NJ, Rev. Patrick D. Boyle, OFM, of New York City, and Eugene (Virginia) Boyle, of Alpha NJ, and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother Judy, maternal grandparents, Carl and Helen McKee, and paternal grandparents, Eugene and Marian Boyle, one uncle Thomas McKee.
Family will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at a later date. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Sharel Ann Johnson, age 75, of Middlebury Center, PA passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022 at UPMC Wellsboro.
Born on January 5, 1947 in Rochester, NY, she was a daughter to the late Worth R. and Grace B. (Barker) Allen.
Sharel worked at General Electric in Syracuse, NY for a handful of years and after that she worked at Agway in Syracuse, NY for about 30 years. Following Agway she worked briefly at WIXT-TV as an accountant and after she left WIXT-TV she was a secretary for Farmington Township.
On August 7, 1976 Ronald W. Johnson married Sharel and they spent several loving years together.
When Sharel was younger she competed in several show western horseback riding competitions. She enjoyed crafting -particularly plastic canvases and crocheting. She also enjoyed gardening, canning fresh vegetables and fruits, and spending time with her beloved beagle dogs; Gracie, Jalin and Patches.
Sharel is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Johnson of Middlebury Center; sister, Diann Allen of California; niece, Emily Osborne; several cousins; and special friends; Linda Lloyd of Syracuse, NY, Wayne Kennard of Maine, Dale Spitzer, Lewis and Phyllis Douglas, Joe and Jaedee Kocher all of Middlebury Center, Dana Hughes, Terri Kendrick, and Amanda Bates.
She was preceded in death by both her parents; and a brother, Gene Allen.

Ruth Ann Lathrop (nee Kronenwetter), 88, was born on January 28, 1934, and passed away December 15, 2022, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John B Lathrop, DDS, of 49 years, her sister, Joan Tompkins and her parents, Margaret (Bloom) and Harold Kronenwetter.
Ruth is survived by her sons, John B. Lathrop Jr. (Stacy) of Nottingham, PA, and James D. Lathrop (Dana) of Chesterfield, MO. Ruth had three grandchildren Zachary, Abby (Jacob Towler), and Nicholas.
Ruth was born in Emporium, PA and went to Emporium High School where she met John. She attended Penn State University, was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, named Homecoming Queen in 1956 and graduated with an education degree.

On June 3, 1972, she married Mike Bowes, who survives.
Ruth was a graduate of Johnsonburg High School and a member of St. Leos Church. She retired from Elk Regional Hospital. Ruth loved spending time with her grandchildren and being their biggest fan at their sporting events.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is survived by a son, Aaron Bowes and his wife Colleen of Kersey, a daughter, Suzi Cotter and her husband Joe of Bellefonte, 6 grandchildren: Maddie, Sam, Maria, Talia, Frank, Zelia. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Mitchel and her husband Tom of St. Marys, a sister-in-law, Rosalyn Simchick, a brother-in-law, Terry Myer and his wife Sandy of Kane.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 children in infancy; Laura and Travis Bowes, 3 brothers; Cy, Joe (Mary Ann), and Rich (Georginia) Simchick, 2 sisters, Lucy Myer and Cathy (Cliff)Snyder.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth E. Bowes will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00AM at St. Leo Magnus Church, 111 Depot Street, Ridgway, PA 15853, with Fr. Justin Pino as celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Leos Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Krise Funeral Home, Ridgway, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 6:00PM until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Leo Magnus Church.
