100 YEARS OF THE ALLEGHENY NATIONAL FOREST AT THE ROACH-BAUER FORESTRY OCTOBER 5th
100 Years of Recovery to Resilience
Kane, Pa. – The October 5, 2023 Roach-Bauer Forestry Forum is pleased to announce that Rob Fallon, District Ranger at the Marienville Ranger District of the Allegheny National Forest (NF), will be the keynote speaker at the Roach-Bauer Forestry Forum at the Wilcox Community Building in Wilcox. Rob will talk about the 100 years of forest management leading from Recovery to Resilience. The public is invited to this most interesting presentation on the ½ million-acre Allegheny NF, the only national forest in Pennsylvania.
Rob Fallon graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1981 with two degrees – one in Environmental Engineering and one in Forest Science. Rob worked in a variety of positions within the USDA-Forest Service for 41 years across five national forests. Prior to becoming District Ranger at Marienville Ranger District in 2006, Rob worked as a field engineer, a forest engineer, a forest planner, and an environmental specialist. Rob is still the District Ranger at Marienville, and is now the second-longest tenured District Ranger in the history of the Allegheny NF.
Rob’s career in Forest Science was piqued in 1977 when he accepted a seasonal tour guide position at Grey Towers, the home of Gifford Pinchot, in Milford, Pa. It was during that summer following his freshman year at Penn State that Rob’s deep interest in understanding the people, events, and perspectives that shaped the Forest Service was lit, and the flame continues to burn today.
Rob’s presentation will be of interest to ANYBODY that utilizes the Allegheny NF or the surrounding public lands for recreation, employment, or services. The Allegheny NF is a special gem within the myriad of national forests across the eastern United States, and has a unique history.
Society of American Foresters’ Continuing Forestry Education credits will be applied for this presentation.
The Forum will be held at the Wilcox Community Building (also called the Jones Township Community Center) at 320 Faries St, downtown Wilcox, Pa., 15870. Preceding the talk will be a no-host social hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The program will start immediately after dinner. Reservations are required! No reservations will be accepted after Thursday, September 28.
